Hi

I need few advice regarding family class sponsorship.

My maternal Uncle is a Canadian Passport holder and he is living in Vancouver. Is it possible for him to sponsor my family (me+my spouse+my child) ??? What are the rules in this case?

Thanks

Short answer... no, he can't.

Who can be sponsored

You can sponsor:

* parents
* grandparents
* brothers or sisters, nephews or nieces, granddaughters or grandsons who are orphaned, under 18 years of age and not married or in a common-law relationship
* another relative of any age or relationship but only under specific conditions (see Note below)
* accompanying relatives of the above (for example, spouse, partner and dependent children).

Note: you can sponsor one relative regardless of age or relationship only if you do not have a living spouse or common-law partner, conjugal partner, a son or daughter, parent, grandparent, sibling, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece who could be sponsored as a member of the family class, and you do not have any relative who is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or registered as an Indian under the Indian Act.

Doesn't that mean if he happens to have absolutely no family other than the poster that he could sponsor them?

It's pretty restrictive - and it says "one relative". The OP wanted to know if the uncle could sponsor the OP, the spouse and a child. If it were true that the uncle had no living family in Canada, he could probably sponsor the OP. But then the OP, after landing, would probably have to sponsor the spouse and child separately. Not sure as we don't see this happen too much.

The OP is married, making them ineligible.
