 Hello all - I have finally got my approval paperwork YAY!!! My husband has been in Canada since July 2013 as he got a job offer and I stayed in the states to continue to work and wait until Oct 2013 when we decided I would just come up and "visit" until I got my paperwork as it would only be a few months! My father sent me the paperwork as it was sent to his house and since I am in Canada "visiting" and my husband has already brought up all our things and imported everything back in July all I really have to declare is the clothes on my back and my wedding ring.
My question would be, since I came here in Oct with a small suitcase should I bring that suitcase to the boarder with me along with the paperwork to declare? Also, any advice or suggestions you guys might have to make this go smooth? I have to say getting to this point now is all I ever wanted but its making me nervous a little…. ;) btw I am american and my husband a canadian citizen if that helps..

Thank you in advance.. going to Buffalo this Sat 2-15!!! :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

Others here have posted you really only need to declare things that will arrive "later", and the officer was not interested in their list of jeans, t-shirt, jewellery (worn by said person), etc.

No need to take that suitcase just for the sake of it. Just go and 'flagpole', and/or in your case stay a few days while you're at it.

You don't need to do anything Sadie. All you need to bring with you is your COPR, your passport and yourself. You can jump over to the states to just 'flagpole' or you can make a quick trip into town, pick up a few odds and ends at a good price at the local walmart or what have you and then head back to Canada. Tell them you wish to 'land' and they will send you inside to speak with an officer. You will be asked a couple questions, sign on the dotted line and be welcomed to Canada. They will ask you if you have anything to follow and such, you can tell them no you have nothing and that will be that. You can then go get your OHIP (assuming you live in Ontario here) and your SIN and you are done and done.

Congratulations! :D

For us (also in Ontario), OHIP was "3 months" from the date of landing. They were quite sticky about that.
