Hi - I need an advice on PCC front.

I haven't got AOR of initial application filed on 9th july 2009
Should I proceed to get my PCC from USA (FBI clearance record) as I have stayed in US for around 3 yrs. Or I should wait on file no with requirement letter from CHC ?

Pls advice. As, for getting FBI clearance I would need to fingerprinted at one of Delhi fingerprint agency and send that fingerprint card to FBI and then they will send me FBI clearance record. This will take enough amount of time..

Yes proceed to the fingerprint right now because it takes between 16 and 18 weeks as per the CIC website in that regard, and yes again you can have your fingerprint done either by a local police department or by a private fingerprinting business

Have a look at the link for CIC explaining how to obtain Police clearance certificate from the USA :

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/united-states.asp

Yes, I would advise starting now, but ... also note that you need PCCs for each US State you lived in (at least 6 months). That makes it even more complicated and time-consuming...

Thank you all for your prompt responses on this.
I have already identified one gov authenticated agency/consultancy (JK consultancy) at New delhi to get fingerprints.

Actually, I have stayed in NJ, USA for last 3 years.

So, as jas has mentioned, I will have to get fingerprints for NJ State police clearance and FBI both for myself and spouse right ?

I "think" it is incorrectly mentioned in CIC website about the timeline FBI requires to issue the PCC (i.e., 16 to 18 weeks).

In my opinion it should take around 3 to 4 weeks (may be additional week or two considering postal delays); not more than that.

Pls check the fbi link as well:

http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/faqs.html
http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/fprequest.htm

Hope it helps...

by the way, mdarji, can you mention the charges for finger printing for 1 person by the JK consultancy that you mentioned in you message.?

Yes mdarji, you have to get fingerprints from FBI and NJ - both for yourself and your spouse. Only exception is if NJ does NOT provide the fingerprint based PCC (rather provides name based search).
hope it helps.
cheers boltz...

He is right. I got FBI "no record" clearance in 5 weeks and PCC from CA took 4 weeks and few days. Both were sent to me by US MAIL and not through any courier. I am in India now. My suggestion is to keep fingerprint card ready and send it right after you receive your AOR along with DDs. These are not free services, you will need to pay in USD.

Regards
joy

aminswiss

they asked Rs. 3000 for first set of fingerprint and then second one would be Rs. 2000, third one would be Rs. 1500.

So, I have to get 1 fingerprint form for FBI and 1 for state police clearance so it will be Rs. 5000 per person.

Joy4u,

While sending fingerprint cards, for paying fees can I include my US bank's cheque (BankOfAmerica cheque) of $18 ?

Also, as you mentioned you got "no record" from CA so did it worked on sending it to CHC ?

I am hoping they will also respond me with in month atleast with PCC.

mdarji,

All info on PCCs from North America is here. This info can change at any time, so you should always check for up-to-date information.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/united-states.asp

If you follow the links you will find payment information for the FBI clearance:

3. Payment

* Include $ 18 - U.S. dollars in the form of a money order, certified check made payable to the Treasury of the United States (please be sure to sign where required), or you may pay by credit card. Note: No cash, personal checks, or business checks will be accepted.
* Must be exact amount
* If for a couple, family, etc., include $18 for each person
* If paying by credit card you must include the completed credit card payment form
* Credit cards will not be used for expedited mail services

So, the answer is NO, you cannot write a personal check from your BOA account.

As for the State PCC, each state is different. Following the links will also get you to the New Jersey website: http://www.njsp.org/about/serv_chrc.html#icbc

Unfortunately, the instructions are lengthy and complicated - and really only apply to CURRENT RESIDENTS. BUT - if you skip to the bottom of the page, you will find:

Out Of State Residents Requesting A New Jersey Fingerprint Based Criminal Background Check

If you need a background check within the state of New Jersey but are no longer a resident, please call the Division of State Police, Criminal Information Unit, (609) 882-2000 Ext. 2918. We will supply you with a package, including a fingerprint card and full instructions.

If telephoning is difficult, you can try using this email form to request this package:
http://www.nj.gov/lps/formmail.htm

hi Joy4u

could you please let me know, how much does it cost to get FBI check and VA pcc by Jk consultancy
and would you also give the adderress of Jk consultancy

i have got my AOR in march 09 and right now i am in india, i lived in USA for 1.5 yr

at what stage will i be required PCC

thanks for your reply
FBI will cost $18USD. You have to send this in USD only; however, not cash. DD worked fine for me. I didn't go to any consultancy for finger printing. I did it myself. Downloaded form from FBI site and followed the instructions. Used Faber Castell Blue ink pad for the impression. Received "no record" stamp from them. Worked fine for CHC.
I had to get state PCC from CA and not VA.

I don't think personal cheque drawn from US bank will work. Money order will do. Yes, "No record" stamps from both FBI and CA worked for CHC.
