Hi all,
My passport has a slight damage, its corner got bend in my bag. The lamination separated little and air bubbles are trapped inside the lamination near place or birth, photo and nationality. All data is legible but damages are visible on close inspection.

I used this passport to write IELTS exam, there wasn't any issue. But it will definitely have problems if I use it for travel or visa purposes.

Currently I am at 438 score and trying to improve IELTS score to make it 441. I have an IELTS test coming up on 29th Sept, need to use current passport

I need to renew passport anyway to proceed if I get ITA. When should I renew ?
  1. Renew first and create EE profile with new passport details
  2. Use current passport details for EE profile and renew after ITA
  3. Use current passport details for EE and renew after AOR

You can renew anytime before the PPR is issued (probably after too), however you will need to immediately communicate the new passport details to IRCC immediately on receiving it.

However this is with regard to you PR application, you may need to renew you passport before any travel depending on the damage.

Do it whenever you want and notify them through the web form. If I were you, and I still didn't submit my EE I would prefer renewing it first then submit, unless your government provides short expiration periods.

yes you can renew anytime, before AOR, after AOR, before RFV, after RFV and even after IM-1 visa is stamped.

Thanks for the replies.

As you have said I am planning to proceed with my EE profile using my current passport and will renew after AOR.

I can update IRCC with new passport details during my background check ?

I know that is the best way. I have an IELTS test registered against my current passport coming on Sept 29th. So I cannot renew it now.

I am from India, I can renew passport in 3 days, but it cannot be used until police verification is complete (verification happens after passport issue for renewal). I don't know how long it will take.

I will renew passport if my CRS score doesn't reach 441. If it reaches 441 in the next 1-2 months, I will use my current passport for EE profile.

I am currently at 438 with 1 EOR result and 1 IELTS result pending + 1 IELTS Exam upcoming

I doesn't look like cutoff is going to drop below 440 soon. If I can't reach 441 by end of October, I will renew my passport and create my EE profile and register for more IELTS :D (Desperate to reach 441, will lose points in June 2019 because of age)

How's my plan ?

just renew it after you submit your PR application and upload the new passport copy through webform. dont sweat it too much. lots of members have done the same.
