Hello All,

Just a quick question/update. We received a request for more information. This is what the letter was asking for:

SPR's residency: Evidence that your sponsor resides in Canada. This includes but is not limited to: pay stubs, T4 slips, utility bills, and banking history. Driver’s licences, Property tax assessments, Social Insurance or Health Insurance cards are not sufficient

The only problem is, we applied OUTLAND. I, the sponsor, do NOT live in Canada. I live in the United States with my wife. On 2 separate forms, it's marked that I do not live in Canada and that I intend to move there with my wife as soon as our application is approved. I also included lots of proof of intent. (We kept an entire copy of our application so I know we filled it out correctly.)

So my question is, why would they ask this? Is this a mistake?!

The only thing I can see what could be wrong is that on a form, it asked when we plan on moving back, but since we don't know when we'll be approved, we didn't know when we'll move; seems like a catch-22 question. And you can't submit the form with the date blank, so I just put a date in and now its past that date, do they think were there? or that I'm (the sponsor) there? How can I know when I'll move when they don't tell you when your approved until you ARE approved?

Just a little frustrated, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hope all is well with everyone else! ???

Re: Stuck in a catch-22. Need advice.

PS.

Am I just completely unaware, but as an out land sponsor who lives outside Canada, am I supposed to move back to Canada before my wife is approved?! why else would they ask when I'm moving back before they let us know that she is approved?

It depends on whether you are a Canadian Are a pr. If a pr yes you need to be in Canada.

If you are a PR, then you need to be in Canada during processing. If you are a Canadian citizen, you can be outside of Canada and still sponsor. A Canadian citizen sponsor does not need to return to Canada before the applicant.

If you are a Canadian citizen, I would send them a letter explaining that you are a citizen, live outside of Canada, will be returning to Canada once your spouse gets PR, and that the date you listed as your return date was provisional only - you thought your spouse would have PR by then.

What proofs of intent to return to Canada did you include?

I am a Canadian citizen, so yes, I thought I was able to live outside the country until my spouse was able to obtain PR.

For proof of intent, I renewed my Canadian passport, opened up a Canadian bank account, and submitted a lot of emails showing that I was looking for places to live, and work. As well as a lot of letters from family that live there stating that they are well aware that we have been talking about moving back there for a while and they would all support us if needed.

i think I might also add some more emails and maybe transfer more money to my bank account.

Just think its weird that when you fill out that form on the computer, it asks for a date, it wont let you leave it blank, and you can't write in any details. So I really just guessed. But I can't see into the future to know when my spouse will get PR, so how can I know when we are moving?! haha I just guessed, and I suppose I was being too hopeful.

Submit your proofs again and what extra you have to add, along with a letter of explanation. Any proofs that you are wrapping up your life in the US are good as well, such as putting your house up for sale, shipping quotes etc.
