Hi all,

So I sponsored my wife in March 2012, who is still back home, She was issued Visa to come to Canada in August and we are assuming because she did her medicals in March 2012 her visa will expire in March 2013.

My question is, is it possible to get extension by 2-3 months?
Has anyone done it in past and got any success with this?

I talked with CIC here in Canada and they told me it is up to visa office in that country. My wife is in India by the way.

Any info or help is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately it's impossible (the CIC agent you spoke with provided you with incorrect information). Extensions aren't given. If she doesn't land by the expiry date on her visa then she will have to apply agian from scratch.

I agree with scylla. One has to land in Canada within the expiry date on the COPR.If not there PR gets cancelled and have to apply once again as a new applicant...

Thanks for the reply Scylla.

But there is no expiry date on COPR. We are assuming it to be in March, that is when her Medicals expire after 1 year.
So in any case do they tell you to do another medical and give extension for 2-3 months?
I heard long time back sometimes they even extend medical expiry date if visa is by then.

Are you sure about there being no date? There has to be an expiry date indicated somewhere. If there isn't, I would email the visa office immediately.

I read thru my CoPR 4 times before I found the expiry date... I kept telling my husband I couldn't find it he looked at it once and said your not reading everything LOL it was there and for my blonde brain it was very hard to find LOL I dunno if all CoPR's look the same or not but it is under application details the first line says issued at:your VO issued date:the date they printed it valid to:the date your medical expires or when your PP expires if before medical expires.

That is weird. I had a friend who sponsored his wife to come to Canada two years ago, and when she was issued the visa, she could not leave by the date provided due to work obligations.

She simply contacted the Visa office in Singapore with a letter I helped her write explaining why, and they simply requested her passport back, and gave her a new visa with, and a 3 month window for landing vs. the 21-day they had initially provided her.

UPDATE:
Wife talked with VO in Delhi and they told that if reason is valid they might extend the expiry date. It all depends on reason and what they feel about it.
Her visa might be expiring in March 1st week, it is when her medicals will expire.
I just want to know if anyone in past has got this done successfully? If yes, then how?

I think the only person that did this successfully is the person who posted above you.
