Hi: i have known my girlfriend for 8 years. First as friends and now we are a couple and want to marry. I have just returned from the canary islands where she lives, i lived with her for 3 months. We also have traveled to italy together with her 5 year old daughter last year. She was born in cuba but has lived in england and now spain. Now she is a resident of spain but still has a cuban passport. We need advice on what are first steps should be to get here to canada as my wife or my common law wifw which is ever is better. She speaks english as she was an english teacher in cuba , will that help?? We need to know where to start? thank you

From your description, you probably don't qualify as a common law couple yet. You have to have a 12 month period of continuous cohabitation.
Your best bet is as a married couple. What is your status in Canada, and where do you reside?

I am a canadian citizen. I own a house and make between 60,000 to 90,000 a year.I have a cLear crimminal record as does she. We are planning to get married. But what i have read in the news that does not guarantee that she will get accepted to come here.

Have you worked through http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp

There are only two guaranteed things in life, "death and taxes".
However, as a married couple, I would think that you stand a very good chance of success.
