Hi,

I am from India and i have 5 years of experience on Mainframe. Currently i am working in India as Mainframe software developer. I also have close to 1 year of experience on Java.

I want to get a job in Canada on Mainframe. I don't hold any visa for Canada now but i wish to work in Canada.

Can some one please tell me the entire process of getting a job in Canada and getting a PR visa for Canada?

If any one knows what is the average salary which is offered to a 5 years experienced Mainframe professional, please let me know. I have heard of many visa consultancy in India who claims that they can get me a job in Canada but I am not able to trust them.

Is it possible that I can apply for a job from India through some job portal and will the employer offer me a job if i convince that if i get selected, i will apply for a visa and will join them or the process is like, first i need to have a visa and then I can be offered a job.

Is it possible to get the job as well visa of Canada by myself without any help from visa consultancy?

Some one please give me the detailed information?

It is definitely possible to get a PR without a consultancy. IMO this forum is as good/better a source for guidance than any agency when going through the process. There are several useful threads on this topic including the ones stickied at the top of this forum as well as this one; http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/a-complete-way-to-nail-source-of-fund-dilemma-t349224.0.html

Stay away from consutancy agencies who claim they can get you a job in exchange for money - these are scams.

If you want to find a job in Canada, you should be applying for jobs through reputable sides such as indeed, monster, workopolis, etc.

It's generally quite difficult to find employers willing to hire foreign workers since the process is quite long and expensive.

Thanks Chiron and Scylla.

Do i need to have a prior job offer in order to apply for visa through express entry?

The process to get the visa normally takes how many days or months?

First of all you please use terminology which is simple for forum members to suggest, share their perspective.

You are stating Mainframe developer; Apart from few IT professionals it would be difficult to comment, suggest.

Gone are the days when the positions are addressed like Mainframe, Mini, PC developers etc.

On mainframe systems like IBM, Unisys etc the general term, positions would be software engineer, developer,

analyst / programmer, systems analyst .....You could be a COBOL, Fortran, RPG Java developer ...

You choose NOC like 2171/2172/2173 which ever is applicable to you. The descriptions of each NOC is available on CIC

5 or 6 years of experience would mean you would be a Software Developer here.
You should easily be able to get $60K to $80K for a permanent position.

For average salaries, check the below link.

That's not possible. No employer will offer you a job if you don't have a valid visa and you are not physically present in Canada. There are already lots of people here with Mainframe skills. So no employer will go through the LMIA process. There might be exceptions.

With regard to the question of getting a job offer, as far as I know and heard is that companies generally do not entertain interviews for overseas candidates as they are not sure about when you would be landing in Canada. So the closest you can get to get an interview call is once you have landed in Canada. You can be only sure of getting a job offer only if your skills and experience is niche and Canadian employers are not able to meet their requirement locally. So, I would suggest you target PNP, if you get 400+, you stand a chance to get PT NOI from Ontario and for other PNPs check this link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/provincial/apply-who.asp.

Yes, it is possible to file your application on your own. The process is quite straightforward and forums like these are very helpful.
