Folks,

May daughter was born in US and she was raised in US and canada, never lived in non-english speaking country beyond few months out of her 3.5 years (yes she is only 3.5 yrs old) :) ..So should i declare her native language as english to give her some benefits later in life , such as she doesnt need to take any english exam to prove her ability?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if you're joking or not -- there's no declaration you can make when your kid is a toddler that will mean anything 5 years from now.

your daughter will eventually speak proficinet English even if today she speaks their parents language.

I suggest putting russian, chinese, french or german as the first language. It may open some gates in the future. She may become a university teacher of one of these languages.

just fyi, there's no such language called chinese.. its Mandarin :P

Thanks guys for all your humourous response to my serious question :)

I will go with my native language for my daughter as well.

I did go with my native language for my US born son. He has spent only about 5 months outside US/Canada. I didn't think about what's going to happen in 15 years from now :)
