National Nursing Assessment Centre NNAS

It's a giant money grabbing game. A few years ago, the exam was only $300. In Alberta, the exact same exam is $1500. They don't offer it often enough so they have people clawing at each other for spots in the exam. And then they pack you in like sardines and barely feed you the entire day and expect you to perform well on your exams. I think it serves three purposes: 1) money grab 2) keep IENs out 3) fulfill the requirement that licensed professionals have a 'fair' opportunity to become licensed in Canada. Nobody checks to make sure it's actually fair, but they can check this off their list of requirements that they have met. It's pretty sickening.
I am planing to apply for lpn through nnas, i have graduated nursing back in India and have 2.5yrs exexperienc, but im not registered in state where i worked back in india . Will my experincee be counted, I have registered only in the state where i did my graduation.has anyone had this situation and what did nnas recommend, any advise would be off great help
My best advice to you is to read all of the posts on here, starting from the beginning. That will give you the best heads up. It will give you all of the information you need to make the decision that is right for you. Essentially, the journey will be very difficult for you. Your NNAS Advisory Report will come back as "non comparable" and you will have to do many more things, without any guarantee. You may have to take an exam that is $1000 in Ontario and $1500 in Alberta. You can only do it once and it's hard to get into. You may have to take courses. Some have decided that there is more of a guarantee if they start their nursing education all over again in Canada. Since it could take just as many years to go through the process of getting our licensed as an IEN. Both options are expensive and the decision is not easy. Good luck.

I’m a registered nurse in Australia.
So far I am just going through the NNAS process (Alberta registration).
I have only read about 1 Australian nurse that received a comparable result. So I’m not very hopeful. I have completed 5 years in total of education. 6 months- assistance in nursing (cert 3) (did not put this in my application: does anyone think I should?), 18 months enrolled endorsed nursing (diploma) and 3 years for my bachelor of nursing science and a total of 1280 placement/clinical hours. I had no mental health placements or obstetrics so will def be lacking in these hours.
I have roughly 10,000+ hours of real nursing work under my belt- not that it makes any difference for NNAS.
Commenced my NNAS application 28th Jan, 2019:
Currently- my ID has been received by NNAS- ready for evaluation.
All my employment forms have been received and are waiting authentication.
My schools are currently working on my application. So far my first uni has a 116 page syllabus. Hoping that will be enough for that part. I estimate these applications will be complete in the next 2-3 weeks (hopefully eariler).
My nursing registration board (AHPRA) has also sent required documents with a good standing certificate a few weeks ago. Hopefully will be received in the next week or so.
I will not need to complete the English requirement.
I believe I am looking at a 10-12 month application process.
Does anyone know or have an idea of how many hours the NNAS or CARNA are looking for to be comparable?
From what I have found it looks like:
Theory:
Med/surg-150 hours
Obstetrics- 50 hours
Mental health- 50 hours
Community health- 50 hours
Gerontology- 50 hours
Clinical placement:
Med/surg- 350 hours
Obstetrics- 150 hours
Mental health- 150 hours
Community health- 150 hours
Gerontology- 150 hours
If anyone hasn’t some info on anything different in regards to the hours please let me know.
Also if any Aussie nurses out there got a comparable, please give me hope!

Some have waited a month, others have waited 6 months, and yet others have waited months only to be contacted by NNAS and told that actually, it is not ready for review, there are documents that are missing or checkboxes on forms that are not checked off. There's really no way to give you a semi-accurate answer, sorry.

i applied for nnas for Rpn and RN in sept 2018..I have 5 yr experience back home(india) in teaching.Actually i start my job before registeration,as for immigration they question you if there is small gap even.So,i got my registeration after 7 month.
Nnas asked me that how your nursing school allowed you to work before registeration.My school of nursing where i worked,they send nnas letter stating that on behalf of course completition nd provisional degree they kept me under trainning until i got my registeration,which is actually very true.now its around 3 wks.it is still review.Is it unacceptable?What are my chances to get eligibility for exam?

Sorry I don't have a definite answer for you on this one. NNAS can take a very long time. What I am fairly certain of is that you won't be eligible to write NCLEX-RN for quite some time. After you get your NNAS Advisory Report back, you will apply to the licensing body in the province where you want to work. They will ask you to provide information on your nursing work experience (they will give you papers that your nursing employer needs to complete). After that, they will decide if you do the IENCAP exam or if they are satisfied that your work experience is equivalent to Canadian nursing education. It is unlikely that they will (I hate to say it but it's true). If they decide you still aren't comparable, you will be asked to do IENCAP. If you pass it then you will be eligible for NCLEX-RN. If not, then you have to take more schooling. You will have better luck getting a job as an RPN at first. But, I don't know much about the RPN process as I did not go through it. Sorry this ins't good news, but it's the truth.

As per my recent experience wait for 6-8 weeks then call them up.They will let you know and that can speed up the process as what is shown on status may not always be true. During this process I was able to get the reviewer email address and was able to send email to him directly about the status of my file.
Mine took almost 4 months but it was due to the fact that they asked me additional documents during the final review phase (The form that my employer sent to them didn't included number of hours I worked. I have to get that done again by my employer)

Actually, my nnas application was showing " READY FOR REVIEW" for around 2 months and it was only when i enquired they told me that there is a problem with my employer documents, now after everything is ok as per my nnas assessor, it is " READY FOR final review" from 3 weeks. I don't know why they are taking soo long again. I can't wait anymore.No more patience.
Yes I think almost everyone has an issue like that, where they all of a sudden decide something isn't good enough or they need you to do something else--they don't tell you right away, which is annoying because you could be working on getting the required documents to them. Everything causes delay with NNAS.
