Regarding the Identity and Civil Status Documents, there is a line that says:

-"National IDs, family/household registry/book (if applicable)"

As for Singapore citizens, do we just provide our IC (Identity card)?

I heard from people that we need photocopies notarized or certified. Do you guys just take photocopies of your National ID from your respective countries and mail them? Do we need legal documents or notary to prove that its true?

Thanks.

Absolutely NOT TRUE. Plain photocopy is all that is needed. If certification were required, it would say that in the instructions.
(BTW, there is a difference between a certified copy and a "notarized" document - a notarized document is the original document where signatures are witnessed by a notary. A certified copy is a witnessed photocopy.).

A few years ago, certified copies were required but that rule was changed for a couple of reasons. First, a person who certifies a copy cannot guarantee that the original document is not a fake - so CIC cannot rely on a certified copy to be proof of the genuine article, they have to use other means to verify your background.

Second, at $40 a pop, some people were spending hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars on certified copies. (Keep in mind that the rule applies to all classes, most of which require a lot more documentation).

As of now, the only time you need a certified copy is if it is not in English/French and it needs to be translated...

- Notarized translation: if translation is done outside Canada.
- Certified translation: if translation is done in Canada
- Plain copy: if it is in French/English.

It depends.... it always depends....

(My ID is in Spanish, but the translation was done in Canada, so a certified translation was enough.)
