Nanny Went Home on Vacation for XMas and Didn't tell us

Hi,

New to the forum and have a question. Our nanny who started with us in September from Thailand decided to go home for Christmas to visit her parents as it might be her last chance with the political situation there. We had given her the 2 weeks off but she never mentioned she was going home (we suspect it was a last minute decision as the situation went from bad to worse the week before Christmas). It was only when we sent her an email with a question that she let us know where she had gone.

My question is, can she get back into the country (she does not understand immigration laws)? She has a LMO and work permit, what I don't know is does the visa she got to come here in September still apply or has she put herself in a situation where she needs to get another one....and if so how long will that take....we go back to work on Sept 6 and I'm starting to get nervous.

Thanks

Hi, when I first got my entry visa to canada I have multiple entry visa, if your nanny have one she still can come back to canada if and if the multiple visa is not expired, and to make sure that she will be allowed to enter canada to resume work for you she should have a letter from the employer that she is expected to come back to work for you.although when I get back from my vacation the immigration officer didnt look for the letter they just checked if entry visa is valid and if work permit is still valid.but its much better to have a letter from you.and if nanny doesnt have valid re entry visa she should apply in their country,it depends on the processing time in their country. And I remember that when she applies for re entry visa she will need your letter si they grant her re entry visa/returning worker entry visa . I hope this will help.

Hi Alberta Employer,

you mean you will go back to work in Jan,6th :)

well back to your question,if your nanny has a valid multiple visa which is i think the case here then she can just fly back to canada without any issues, she needs to carry her valid work permit as well.
if she has a single entry visa(which has been used the first time she enters canada)then she needs to apply for a new one at the canadian embassy in bangkok based on her work permit(processing time will go from few days to weeks).
i hope she has a valid multiple entry visa to avoid the unecessary delay. :)
good luck getting your nanny back on time
