Hi guys,
My driving license (from India) has my first name-last name format.
My passport has first name-middle name-last name. In fact, my middle name is my father's first name and my father's full name is separately mentioned in the DL.

In short, my DL does not have middle name and my passport does. My queries are:

1. Do I absolutely need to get it in sync? (I have 4 months in my hands, and I think I will be able to do it if required)
2. If I don't change it in DL, could I provide a document, like a legal notarized affidavit that both these names, in fact, are one and the same person i.e. me? Will it be accepted in Canada along with my DL extract?

Hi seniors, any guidance on this please? Urgently need help regarding name on driving license.

What's your status in Canada? If resident, you need Canadian driver license.

try to spend money and get it to match your passport It will help you once you land. also get a driving license extract too

Dear Seniors,

I too am in a similar situation i.e.

My name in Indian Driving License is say ::: Jane Maria
But my passport and COPR contains say ::: Jane Maria Lawson......i.e Surname is also there in Canadian docs but not in Indian Driving License.

So does it work if I take a same name affidavit mentioning that :Jane Maria and Jane Maria Lawson ,both are my names only?

Hi Kapil,

Hope you are doing well.

I am also in similar situation.

My Passport has first name - last name but DL has first name-middle name -last name.

Do I need to update my DL name as per passport?

For Ontario province, do I need International DL and DL Extract at the time of landing?

Could you please share your experience? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

SK

HI Guys.. Any update on this? I am also facing the same situation. can somebody through some light!
It matters only if there is a first name or Last name which is missing in the Passport. Example: Rahul Khanna and Son of Rajiv Khanna on the DL and Rahul Rajiv Khanna on the passport is okay... However they will question if Rahul Rajiv on the DL and Rahul Rajiv Khanna on the passport..... But since the DL is a photo ID and if you have another photo ID to validate it "might may possibly could" work (but it is a risk)

Hey Guys,

I have similar situation, in my case, in DL I just have name as Mithun GM but in passport Initials are expanded. Does this make any issue while applying for G1 driving license in Canada? Or is it ok if I get a notarized "One & Same person" affidavit for the same. Or should I apply for a name change in RTO?

Please let us know how you guys managed with name difference issues.

It will be very helpful for all. Thank you very much in advance.

I'm in the same situation. Did anyone get this resolved without changing name on DL??

I had the same issue my last name was not expanded in the DL and extract. I took a chance and visited the mississauga drivtest center. They refused to take my experience as my last name was not matching. I tried to reason but to no use. Dissapointed i thought of giving another shot and went to etobicoke drivetest and they accepted my experience.
Try going on saturday to a smaller drivetest location like etobicoke. Its all about the person who gets ur application at the counter. Good luck
