My wife is applying citizenship and her name was changed after marriage by adding my name to hers. But it happened before we got PR. So her COPR, PR card, ids and current passport has her new last name.

So do I have to give any documents of previous name change at all? Or that is valid for new name changes?

I already got some advices from my fellow forum buddies. Just wanted to get confirmation

She had her surname changed through marriage, not legal name change, so the marriage certificate should suffice.

Her COPR and PR Card already have the new name, so you should use that one for the application.

The name was changed a year before we applied for permanent residence or in another way before this 4 year application term. Does she still have to give a proof of name change. Because she don't want to change her name in citizenship.

So she put under previous names " her old name". My question is do we have to give anything to show she had a previous name like that or they don't care?

Did she change her surname (chose your surname) because of marriage? If yes, the marriage certificate would suffice the need.

Yes she changed after marriage. But before coming to Canada.

So I called CIC and they said, if her pr card and copr have her new name, she don't have to give any documents.

Only if a name change is required from citizenship, then I need documents.

Thanks

Here is the catch:

If she has any supporting documents those she might have (like language proof etc) which has her maiden name, at that point you should have the marriage certificate attached. Else CIC won't be able to determine that if that's the same person or not.

In the section 3A, write the new name (as per pr card) and for Section 3C, write her complete maiden name (first name, middle name and maidenlast name<maiden surname>)

None of the supporting documents have her old name. But, the agent said I have to mention her previous name in the box provided for previous names. But all the documents we are sending has her new name.

I asked agent, if I can still sent marriage certificate, in case. she said that is fine, but not required.

As you would be mentioning her previous name on Section 3C, you may add marriage certificate to show her old name (i suppose the marriage certificate will have her old name)
