Hope someone can help me with this issue..

My wife and i got married March 2010. We immediately worked on the requirements for the spousal application and she just got her VISA approved last week. Now the thing is the name on her passport is still her MAIDEN name. We want her to use MY last name when she gets here. How do we go about changing it when she reaches canada? when she is interviewed my the immigration officer can she request for that already so that when they submit her papers and her Permanent Resident Card & Social Insurance Number is processed it will now show her new name?

any suggestions?

im wondering this too, i have will have same kind of situation...

or would it be better to apply new passport with new last name and send copies etc, before ppr request??

i hope we will find answer soon :P

thats risky though Millu. What if youre in the process of changing the passport's name then the embassy suddenly requests for the passport plus all your documents (spousal application form) would show her maiden name then suddenly you will submit her passport with her NEW name. it might confuse them. so what we did was have it all processed under her maiden name and now, im not too sure how we go about reflecting her new name on her S.I.N and permanent resident card.

anyone help pls.

there are some other post about this topic.... even so i have no idea.... changing it during the Pr process is risky.. what i have read is that is better to end all the process once in canada apply for a new passport with your married name or change it to it and change all your papers to it..... or wait and then change it all i know you should do it before you get to your citizenship otherwise is another big mess....

in case you remember which post this was discussed kindly link it here.

i appreciate your help. yes im thinking too that the best way to do it is get the SIN and PR first then have the passport changed like you said then everything follows. thanks a lot alpesantezo
