HELP PLEASE!!!

How do I go about changing my maiden name to my married name, if I just got my PR application approved (outland). I want my married name to appear on the Permanent resident ID card??

Let's say my maiden name is Sandra Lopez Luna and my married name is Sandra Peters, but my PR application was submitted with my maiden name because in Peru we keep our last name even after marriage... any previous experience please help

U can send them letter stating same thing plus copies of new n old id and passport.they ll ask you before giving visa about updated info! And issue u visa on the latest name.

the visa office will only issue the visa in the name as it appears in your passport. have you changed your name in your passport? if so, was this the passport you sent a copy of for your PPR? If the passport you sent in for your visa (or the copy of your bio page) has your married name in it, then that should be the name that is printed on your COPR.

If you haven't changed your name in your passport yet, then you either need to get it changed ASAP and THEN contact the visa office to have them change it on your COPR before your land and it expires.

OR you can wait until AFTER you land and get your initial PR card. After you get your initial PR card, you can pay $50 to have a new one issued in your married name.

Thank you!!

I think easier will be to wait after landing and request a new PR ID Card, I read somewhere I will have to wait 12 months living in Canada before doing it...no choice

um, not sure where you heard that. i can't imagine that's true. what would happen if you lost your pr card? would you not be able to get a replacement until 12 months? seems a bit far fetched to me. did you read this info on CIC's official website?

I read it online but not CIC website, I also found information on a different website, they say it is not necessary to change the name legally if you want to take your spouse 's last name, you can do it using the marriage certificate.

That's still a legal name change, just not an expensive one. If you are in Quebec, you cannot use the marriage certificate to do so.
