hudda,
I understand now the difference as you are in the sponsorship group and I'm in the skilled worker. There's a difference between both, better you ask the people in your group. I only entered to this thread to share my experience on waiting visa from that Visa office. :'(

Hi Huda

Your son is by default a canadian, a person born to a Canadian parent can apply for citizenship directly and passport will be next.

You may need a birth certificate to proof that he is your son or a DNA test can also be done .

So why not apply citizenship instead of applying through PR of Nairobi office which is very lengthy?

What is a citizenship certificate?

A Canadian citizenship certificate is a document that proves that a person is a Canadian citizen. it can be issued to a person born in Canada, to a person born outside Canada to a Canadian parent, [Note 1] or to a permanent resident (a landed immigrant) who has been granted Canadian citizenship. The citizenship certificate is a letter-sized paper document that was introduced in February 2012 and that replaces the former wallet-sized certificate. Citizenship certificates issued before February 1, 2012 continue to be valid. The citizenship certificate contains your family and given names, date of birth, gender, and effective date of citizenship. It is not a travel document. Any Canadian citizen wanting to travel outside Canada must obtain a Canadian passport.

* [1] A child born outside Canada to a Canadian parent in the second or subsequent generation is not a Canadian citizen automatically.

Hi Sheik,

What date did you deliver your passport to the Embassy?
Have you received your PR visa? what date did that happen? how did they notify you to come pick up the visa? (email, mail, phone?)

Thank you

Hi Canadanow,

i got ppt requset on the 15th January and send by courier on the 16th January and they delivered on the 21st January. i did not received any reply from them if they received or not, my status remained the same in process. i do hope in two more weeks i will get my PR. As for pick up i put a return prepaid courier so that they contact the courier agency directly for pick up, easier and quicker otherwise they will waste more time when they contact you and asked courier to pickup and so on. hope ihave been helpul to your question.

Hi Sheikh & CanadanOW

I am also starting soon to apply for my spouse sponsorship,

For the correspondence and communication during stage 1 and stage two, were the notification and requests
such as the medical request, additional document requests, passport request, notifications such as AOR 1st, AOR 2nd, done via mail or email?

Because i am based in Somalia and we don 't have a existing post here, the only way I can receive such correspondence is via DHL which i am not sure if they willing to pay for the fees, i have checked DHL and I couldn't find any information about this prepaid envelope, may be i should add a bunch of preprinted DHL airway bills with my application so whenever they want to sent they stick this to the envelope and asks DHL for pickups, what do you guys think?

These are the emails I exchanged with the Nairobi office still waiting for a second reply

Good Morning and many Thanks for your prompt email.

I didn't apply for the sponsorship yet, I don't know what to do with the mailing address space in my forms, since Somalia has no existing postal service, Should I use the Canadian one where my sponsor is located (which is a bit far from Kenya) or should i stick with the below DHL address

Kindly advise.

c/o XXXXXXX (only DHL -Normal post does NOT exist)

Subject: Spousal PRV correspondence For Somali resident

Dear Sir/Madam

I am applying for my Spousal Permanent Residence Visa application, I currently live in Somalia. I have a Physical address at my work. However, we do not have a standard postal service in Somalia.

The only way that I can receive mail is through DHL courier, since its only courier that operates in Somalia. I am wondering how I will receive notifications and request of my file? will it be e-mailed? or do you recommend to use the address of my wife in Vancouver, Canada.

After my file gets approved for Permanent Resident VISA (PRV) I believe there are documents that will be send from your High Commission such as the passport, Single Journey travel document, and confirmation of permanent residence (COPR), will these be delivered over DHL? Or can I come to pick it up in person?

Thank you in advance,

hi Camelboy,

That is an awkward situation you have there and I am really not sure. I can tell you what our experience was.

1. in filling out the forms, there was a checkbox asking if we wanted correspondence to be done via email. we checked these boxes (one for me and one for my wife).
2. for myself (as sponsor), they communicated via email. For my wife (despite her checking the box mentioned above), they corresponded via post (which I know is not an option for you).
3. I would suggest contacting the Nairobi embassy directly and ask your questions....

while including pre-paid / pre-addressed DHL is a VERY good idea, make sure they are going to be used. Sheik's use of this was a little bit different b/c he was sending his passport knowing they would have to return it somehow.

Good luck!

hi Sheik,

Thanks very much. My wife just received a letter asking for her passport so I was hoping to gage how long Nairobi might take based on other peoples' experiences but it appears they have not returned your passport/visa yet. Please do post back here when you receive it or updates affecting your timeline.

Best wishes

Thanks again

Does your wife uses a P O BOX or a physical address? also how about the possibility of arranging your passport to collect it in person ?

Approved for sponsorship July then they sent it out to Nairobi. From then till now ( February 2nd) I've been waiting for a response other than "your file is still on the interviewer queue. All my papers have been sent include medical, police record, right of permanent residence fee, 8 pictures. I recently went back to djiboui to spend some time with my wife 3 months sept-dec 2012. My wife is pregnant now, and I email Nairobi everyday with the hope of trying to speed it up by review my application I sent an adding more specific information to let them know this is a real marriage. So yeah how long did it take any of you guys to get out of the interview queue

Hi Samstar

I would advise you not to bug them with too much correspondence, as this may create a delay on your file. once every 2-3 months is wise.

Hey bro, thanks for the advice. It's just that 2 people I know sponsored their husband and thy told me to keep emailing them. My emails now are about adding more specific information or updating information that relates to my application for my wife. I read on some other threads that you get a interview if the person reviewing your application doesn't feel you provided enough proof or weret more specific in some f your answers. So I'm basically just specifying my answers because to get the CAIPS I need my wife to sign that she allows me permission to view them. My wife is in Djibouti and I don't want to send her the paper to allow me permission to see the CAIPS. Also, do u know how Long this interview queue last.

You should not distract your Visa Officer with too much other details, let him/her concentrate on what you have sent, your application was supposed to be complete in the first place.
Secondly you can not speed up things by sending emails, and that is a wrong advise of your friends, Visa officers they use BFDs(Bring forward dates) which is the date specified by the VISA officer to review your file again in case he request for additional documents or working on background security or medical checks.
Moreover if your wife is Djibouti , i friend of yours can order the caips notes on behalf of you , or through a third party such as http://caipsnotes.com/ , they will charge you $40 they will either sent you via post or email.

If you don't mind asking, are you a Somali or Ethiopian?

P.O. Box. She will likely want to pick it up in person but that will likely not be her decision. CIC will probably either just send it to her (not giving her the chance/choice to pick it up OR they will phone her with invitation to pick it up.

This is a valid point if there is information to send. Like a note from the doctor confirming that his wife is pregnant or if there was a trip/ visit. A complete application is required, yes. However in the case where applications sit for a long time, things can be added to prove the continuing of the relationship. Every case is unique, and just because it didn't work for one, does not mean it didn't work for others.
