Hi, my work permit will expire in April 2024 but my employer has not filed the renewal yet. I am worried what will happen to my spouse and children's visa which are set to expire in April too since I'm their sponsor.

My colleague who's work permit expiration was January 30th 2024, told me that our employer has filed the renewal on December 2023 and he got a acknowledgement letter only.
I have questions about this:
  1. Can we renew Student permit and visa of my child with just an acknowledgement letter?
  2. Can we renew OWP permit and visa of my spouse with just an acknowledgement letter?

Employer is not responsible for visas or permit, only LMIA or extension.
One has to extend it by themselves. So you need to apply for it as soon as possible.

1. No they will not be able to apply for a study permit or SOWP extension unless your employer has LMIA including for your position and you have applied for WP extension.

Do you know if your employer has an LMA and an LMIA tor your job or a general LMIA? That would be the first thing to verify. Without the approved LMIA already in place then other extensions will not be possible for quite some time and your spouse and children will have to try and change to visitors for a period of time.

I started school last year September, however my study permit extension was refused because i could not start school in January. I would like to know if I can restore my status since I am still in school

Thank you for your response.

I have closed work permit and not a PR/CSQ holder. Isn't it the employer's job to renew a CLOSED work permit since it's tied in to a LMIA? Because employer is not giving us a copy of the LMIA and nobody from my colleagues applied for extension own their own, our employer's Immigration lawyer filed it for them, but it was 1 month before expiry of visa/work permit. So, they only possess an acknowledgement letter.

Yes, my employer has acquired a LMIA 3 years ago before I entered Canada in 2021, but I am not sure about the details of expiration/etc as only employer has the copy.
