hi guys,
my work permit expire on aug 15 and my visa is expired .is there any chance can i cross the border and get my work permit ,visa stamped at the same time(with a positive lmo) i live in halifax...not sure where is the nearest US border ,,,,,,,any advise is helpful thank you

Only those from visa exempt countries can apply for work permits at the border. You will have to apply for your work permit online or send it by mail to Vegreville, Alberta. For the temporary resident visa, you will send the application to CPP-Ottawa.

If you apply for a new work permit before the old one expires, you will have "implied status" and can continue to work for the same employer until a decision is made on your application. You can also continue working with the expired SIN.
Implied status: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp
Using expired SIN on "implied status": http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sin/employers/expiry.shtml

The nearest US border from Halifax is Calais in Maine.

As long as you apply prior to the expiration of your work permit, whether online or via paper application, you can remain in Canada and continue working. This is known ans "implied status". However, if you do not apply prior to the expiration date, then you must not continue working because you are now out of status.

Because you are in Canada now, you do not need a new visa yet.

Good luck!

You can't do that because your Canada Visa is expired. If you leave Canada ideally you cannot enter without a visa. If you have both Canada and US visa, you can process your work permit at the border. There is no way to process your visa at the border, you've to send it to CPPO.
