My wife is an international student we are pregnant does she still have to attend school?
I am born Canadian and we applied for family sponsorship about a month ago and now are pregnant my wife has a 4 year study permit but now she is not feeling well with the pregnancy. She feels she cannot study while pregnant can she stop going while pregnant and waiting for our family sponsorship to process?

If she stops attending school, the school can report her to CIC and her student visa could be revoked.

Did you submit the PR application inland or outland?

If OUTLAND, then after study permit is revoked she would then need to apply for visitor status in Canada in order to stay here. If she can't get status, CBSA may start actions to deport her. Her being pregnant may or may not factor into their decision (i.e. they may factor in her health and ability to fly if in late pregnancy).

If you did an INLAND app, AND you submitted an OWP (Open Work Permit) app along with the inland app, then she is on "implied" status so would legally be allowed to stay in Canada during entire processing of PR. If you did inland and she didn't submit an OWP app, then she better do this before she quits school. It's imperative she apply for an OWP while she has some other legal status here, and not after her status is taken away.

The rules changed last years. Based on the new rules now in place, her student visa will become automatically invalid once she has stopped attending school for more than 90 days and at this point she will have no status in Canada.
