Hi All,
I would like to share my experience with citizenship application and seek your advise if there is a similar case please.
We submitted our citizenship application at 30-Oct-2017 as a family, which consists of Myself, my wife and my elder son We received the invitation to Canadian citizenship test in April 2018, and I passed the exam and unfortunately my wife failed the exam.
According to the officer, all our paperwork was OK, so it is just about my wife to retake the exam and pass it to be ready for the ceremony, and this should take 4 to 8 weeks. Till the time of writing this email, we never received any schedule to retake the exam from the IRCC and I followed up many times and every time IRCC says that we didn’t make any reschedule yet, and they always advise us to be ready for the exam any time.
I applied to separate myself and my son's application in February 2019, but IRCC rejected my request and said that they will expedite my wife's test so the whole family can get citizenship together.
Since then again nothing happened, and we involved your office in the issue but the feedback was the same "your file is considered as non routine and no one can give a time when the exam will be scheduled).
In June 2020, I checked my citizenship status online, and found the status " decision made", when I clicked it nothing appeared on the next page. Since then I never received any mail from IRCC regarding the decision and the status online still the same!
I have contacted the MP again and he mentioned that there was a background verification on your file which completed in May 2020, and it passed, that's why my status has changed from "in process" to " decision made", but still I can't be called for ceremony until my wife pass the exam, and as long as all exams are on hold due to COVID-19, no one can predict when the exams will be resumed.
My concerns here are:
1. When we made the interview with the officer after the exam in 2018, she reviewed all the paperwork and she said all good, its all about the exam, so why did they apply background check on us? there was nothing suspicious in our file to trigger and further verifications, and if there was anything then we would be contacted to provide proofs/documentation...
2. After COVID-19 settled, are we going to be given a priority to take the exam or we will be waiting for all the people in the pool to take the exam then we will be given a spot?
Please if there is any similar case, share your experience with me as this is really frustrating, I've completed 7 years in Canada and never traveled and I am working and paying tax but didn't get the citizenship due to the above situation!!
