Hi all,

I can understand how frustrating immigration process is and it is one of those things where the improvements are at snail speed. I applied for Sponsorship of my spouse and then due to the long waiting time I wanted to go for a TRV for her to have some assurance that she can come and see me here if we want. Here are my suggestions:

1. Basic - Understand what the obligations are there if you get a TRV.
2. Finances - Do not show too much money. Be reasonable. Two weeks stay in Canada won't require 10000CAD. Show whatever you have in your bank. No need to do anything special.
3. Finances - Mention the breakdown of funds in your cover letter - how much you are willing to spend. Be reasonable.
4. Finances - Prove source of funds- Preferably it is the money of the person applying for the TRV.
5. Finances - Give your(spouse in Canada) recent T4 and recent bank statements.
6. Ties - This is where you have to be very very very sensible. You have to CONVINCE the VO that your are going to return wherever you are from.
7. Ties - If you are in Canada, then the strongest tie of your spouse is in Canada. But do not worry.
8. Ties - If you have a job then ask yourself what kind of job is it? Career related or just for now? If career related, make full use of it. Take salary certificates. Take a letter from the Manager that he/she trusts you and you will come back.
9. Ties - If you do not have a job/career oriented job then be realistic. Don't say I have to come back to manager properties or take care of parents cause most likely you want to stay with your spouse above all.
10. Cover letter(Applicant) - Now this is where you can break or make the deal in my opinion. Give an overview of your profile. Be professional with your language. If your ties are weak, then be honest about it. But tell them, "I know the legal obligations after getting a temporary visa. And I can assure you I will respect these." But in order for the VO to believe that, you have to take him there with your letter.
11. Invitation Letter(Spouse in Canada) - Again, very vital in my opinion. Be professional. State all the facts. Where is your spouse going to stay, where to visit and everything. Also add the emotional factors in the letter. Not something like, "I love my wife a lot and I want to stay with her". But something like, "I believe having the opportunity to spend some time with my wife would be very uplifting for me".
12. Overall - Be organized with your papers. Don't send too much, don't send to less. And again, be professional with everything.

Good luck ! I hope we all get to spend quality time with our spouses ;) :p

Thanks for this! I feel like I have put all of this in my Wife's TRV application, applied April 1st online and completed Biometrics on April 2nd. No word from them yet...Sucks.
