I applied for PG diploma in financial planning in Seneca College. You should apply to the course that's relevant to your work experience. I have been working in banking industry for the past 6 years so that was very much relevant.
hey Niraj
hope you are doing well.

I would like to ask that did u just applied to Seneca college, or to the others colleges as well. Because I have made admission enquiries to many colleges, and they said they do not accept applications ( Durham college in particular) after the academic gap of 5 years with work experience. So, could u list out the name of colleges u applied to.
Thanks

Hey guys.
I am also having the same scenario like others. I do have an academic gap of 8 years after completing my MBA (General) from U.K. I am currently working as A.m in a real estate company. Now, I am seeking to do a Graduate certificate in Project Manager which is also my company's demand if I want to switch to different department to attain a senior level position. I have made a selective list of colleges that I would like to apply.
1. Centennial
2. Fanshawe
3. Humber
4. Georgian
5. Cambrian
6. St. Lawrence
7. Conestoga

If any knows about the above mentioned colleges please revert.
And, I also request other members to share there list of colleges which do accept the academic gap of more than 5 years. Likewise, I mentioned that Durham do not accept application of people having gap of more than 5 years. I am still waiting for a response from the colleges. I will update here which colleges do accept and which don't.
Thanks

Hi thanks for your post.
So yes we are pretty much on the same boat. Based on the colleges you chose I did apply and got rejected. I mean with the gap that have, I would say obtaining a offer letter from college is far more difficult than visa.

1. Centennial. I have not applied for this
2. Fanshawe. I have not applied for this.
3. Humber. I applied for three programs in this and I was refused.
4. Georgian. No not applied.
5. Cambrian. Nope
6. St. Lawrence. nope
7. Conestoga. Applied and was refused.

I also applied for Lambton college but was refused. But yeah given the fact that you too have a UK MBA you might get into Seneca. I
My MBA is too from UK Affiliated degree.

Application fees costs a lot but I suggest don't limit your choices to colleges and pg diplomas. Also look for master's program and in universities.

Based on our gap and experiences it's pretty hard to get visas for pg diploma when you already have a master's degree. I don't know how I got my AIP. I think I just got really lucky.

Thanks for the reply Niraj

The course which I have selected is just not only my choice, my current employer would like me to go either for Project management or Public Relations. Few colleges or universities have Public relations course and just have two main intakes. On the other hand, Project management have more options, that is the only reason I chose this course and have better opportunities in the coming years. Overall, my company would be supporting me as they asked for specific specialization if I want to work as Project manager or PR manager. That is the reason I was looking for Pg Diploma.
What would u say about this according to your experience. Could u plz mention how many colleges did u apply and what course. What would like to suggest me.
Thanks and Regards

Hello everyone.

I have been a silent viewer of this great blog since last Sept. I would like to share my story now. I will try to make it up to the point and answer the questions in the story itself.

My profile:

Age: 34 (married, applying alone as of now)

Country: India

Educational background: BSC (Comp Science) & MBA (GENERAL)

Last education was done in 2014

So can say I have 6+ years of gap. But have been working with a multinational bank since 2015

Most people recommended that Canada is a way out of my league.

But it was my dream/passion to move to Canada.

Applied to plenty of colleges after my IELTS that I took last Sept-2019. But since I had 12 backlogs (reattempts) during my bachelor’s I was not accepted. Finally, one fine day I got accepted in Seneca’s one year PG Diploma for SEPT-20 intake. I know after MBA a PG diploma sounds a bit downgrading, but I couldn’t afford a master’s degree.

I started my procedure of getting my fees paid, upfront medicals and GIC. Had it all done by Feb and first week of March. But then the wrecked corona effect took place and everything started to go south on me, on everyone. So fast forward to my visa application, with so many doubts and little clarifications from IRCC took the leap of faith and applied on 10th JUNE 2020.

After waiting for what seemed like an eternity I got my AIP on 15 SEP 2020.

So just thought of sharing my joy and my story with you people.

For all the people who are aged 30 or above considering if they should take a chance or not; I would just like to an example for them. Just believe in yourself and your profile, your skills and take a leap of faith. If you don’t even now, you will be spending years just wondering if you should or if you shouldn’t and believe me that is what I did for the last 4 years.

So all the very best for those of you who are still waiting for their AIP’s and congratulations to those who got it.

Thanks

hey rahul
Could u plz tell me that did u apply every time in the same Uni (Cape breton) and what is ur educational background.
What were the reasons of refusals?
Did u go for SDS or non SDS?
How much the gap period of each application?
How many colleges did u applied and did u know that some colleges have gap restrictions? Did u went for an agent or applied by self?

Thanks and Regards

there are some colleges and universities which do not accept applications with academic gap of more than 5 years. So, please look for the relevant course again with better options, college and uni rankings ( their requirements). If u meet the requirements then please make an enquiry by sending each and every college or Uni., ask them if they accept applications with more than 5 years of academic gap, and if they agree then apply for the course. In the different forum, u have mentioned that application was refused 3 times from Cape breton. why did u go for just 1 university. Please select 3- 4 options and make sure u meet the requirements and then do further steps.
Do not worry u r not refused by the CIC.
And pls do not forget to answer my previous msg questions. :)

I would suggest you to please take this in writing that you will have a job once you complete your studies abroad from your current employer. This adds weightage to your application in terms of job prospects back in your home country. I would also like to suggest that look for colleges and universities outside Ontario and Vancouver. Look for Nova Scotia, prince Edward Island or some other provinces a little less popular with international students. Canada does want to establish people in other provinces as well a lot like Australia.

Hi NIRAJ1986,

Happy to read your experience. Did you mention during your application that " You already have a Masters ? Not to Seneca but I mean in your Visa Application ? Thank you !

Well done !
