My recent Canada Child Benefit application experience

Hello all,

I would like to share my Canada Child Benefit story. I became a Canadian PR years back, and citizen somewhat recently. Albeit late, I became aware of programs like CCTB and UCCB last year. I did not apply for them to focus on citizenship paper work. Once the citizenship processing was over, we applied for CCB. Here are some highlights:

• One can apply for CCB online, but some paperwork still need to sent by snail mail
• Do send your papers with tracking
• Follow up with CRA every 3-4 weeks if there is no progress
• One can also check application status online, but information is scant...
  
• In my case, the whole process took about 10 weeks
• Retroactive payments(Aka Back payments) are possible

They are NOT welfare programs. Welfare is something completely different and is grounds for making one ineligible to sponsor.
