Hello Friends,

First of all, I would like to express my GRATITUDE to all who has helped answering my questions and also to all who frequently contributed to this forum. All the advises and tips given were very helpful! Kudos to all of you! :D

Here, I would like to share my PR journey with all and hopefully in some way will be helpful to answer questions that some of you may have.

Here it goes ...

1. I reside in Calgary. We (my son & I) applied for inland spousal sponsorship. I'm a Malaysian citizen and my husband is a Canadian citizen.

2. We submitted our application in January 2015 and CIC received (start the process) our application on March 2015.

3. We were requested to do our medical check up on May 2016.

Medical check-up (in Calgary):
- We immediately booked an appointment for medical check up and it was done on June 2016. You'd need to do it immediately as CIC will only give you 30 days to get it done.
- After the appointment is booked, you'd need to call Calgary Lab Services (CLS) to book your appointment for blood test. (Adult need to do the blood test and urine test; child under 18 only need to do the blood test)
- We also went for chest X-ray (child above 12 years old need to do it). No appointment needed.

4. We were requested to submit police check both for my time here in Canada & Malaysia in July 2016. I was requested to do fingerprinting police check. It was quick and easy. You'd need to get a private company to do it for you as Calgary Police Services do not do fingerprinting for civil matters anymore.

5. I submitted all documents on August 16, 2016.

6. We got our landing interview letter on September 9, 2016.
(The letter will inform you of what documents you'd need to bring for your interview: A valid passport/travel document; 2 photos; the landing interview letter; your receipt for the Right of Permanent Resident Fee ($490) & any valid CIC documents - work permit, study permit, visitor record)

7. We went for the interview and were landed in Harry Hays Building Calgary on September 15, 2016 :)

During the interview:

It was an easy and stress-free interview. It was a formality to finalize your PR. Therefore, you will have to attend. The lady at the counter was very friendly. Since my husband is my sponsor, he needs to be there. She asked him 3 questions and I was asked 3 questions too. We signed our papers and were handed our Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR). You have to keep this paper and treasure it dearly, as we were told, in future if you were to apply for citizenship, CIC will ask for your CoPR. Therefore, even after you get your PR card, you'd still need to keep your CoPR :)

Notes:
1. There will be a "dormant time" during the whole PR process. Even after CIC acknowledged receipt of your application, you will still need to wait for months, before they start asking you for more information and so forth. So, please be patient and don't worry! :)

2. Once, they start asking your additional information, be prepare to get busy! :)

3. If you could not meet their deadline to submit your documents, don't be afraid to ask for extension. They will usually grant you the extension.

I hope all the information I've shared here would be helpful to some of you. Please do not hesitate to ask me questions if you have any! I'd be glad to help in any way I can!

Cheers!

If you are the sponsor:
1. Have you ever been convicted of a crime inside or outside of Canada?
2. Have you ever been declared bankrupt?
3. Have you ever sponsored anyone (besides the current applicant(s) you are sponsoring) within the last 5 years? (You can only be a sponsor of someone every 5 years)

If you are the applicant:
1. Have you ever been convicted of a crime inside or outside of Canada?
2. Have you ever been asked to leave Canada?
3. Is there any other applicant(s) besides the one listed in your application?

I'm unsure if these are the standard questions or not. Besides these questions, you will also be asked to confirm your mailing address (to mail your PR card). There might be other questions asked, but generally it's for confirmation of information you put in your application. All this is for formality purposes.

All the best in your interview! ☺

Thanks for posting this. They do ask the sponsor too?? Interesting. I have seen the sponsored questions before... #3 is about any children.
