Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone can help on this subject: My passport will expire on 11.11.2013 . If everything with my file is gone well then I`m suppose to get PR about March or April. I really hope there will not be any delays and because of the medicals. Is it better to renew my passport from now? Are there any requirements about the validity of the passport after the visa has been issued?

Thanks and Merry Christmas to everyone!

When my husband received the request for his passport for them to put in the visa, the email from the visa office said that the passport had to be valid for at least the next 6 months. Now, if u are approved in April, then your passport will have 7 months left on it, however, if you're visa office takes their sweet time putting in the visa and returning the passport to you it could be past that 6 month expiry date.

If it was me, I'd probably be really nervous and get the passport renewed early and then send a copy of the new passport to the visa office explaining that my passport has been renewed.... but others might have other suggestions for you. I think that it would be more hassle to get the visa and then have the validity of the passport expire (you're really not supposed to use your passport when there is less than 6 months left on it) and u have the visa inside and then have to worry about getting a new passport and carrying your old one with the visa. You might be able to have your new passport but use the old passport to show the visa (since the visa wouldn't be expired yet) however, I'm really not sure.

I would get the passport renewed early.

It also depends on your VO... since from what I can see you're not from a visa-exempt country, you can also choose to wait and see.... if the VO asks for a passport early enough you might not have to renew it...and if you do, you normally have 30 days to submit it. So if in your country it's not too long to renew your passport you can also wait and see what happens... if it starts to get closer to the date and you haven't gotten any communication from the VO, then you can decide to renew it - not necessary to decide now.
Good luck,
Sweden

Thanks for your answer Sweden,

I`m trying to plan everything so I don`t get any unnecessary delays later but is a bit complicated because I live in Cyprus and I`m Bulgarian. So I`ll need to go back to my country for the passport renewing and if by March I don`t get any certain answer from the VO I`ll do it.
Somewhere here I read that some people payed their RPRF when they received the Sponsorship approval and other did it even earlier.
In the letter of Sponsorship approval is written:
`If the Right of Permanent Residence Fee is applicable to your application and you have chosen to defer payment of that fee, you will be contacted to make the payment at a later date.`
Do you think we should try to pay it earlier or shall we wait? Some people said it is a waste of time if we don`t pay it earlier.

Best wishes!

If you wait to pay it, it adds delays at the end of your application, so I would advise to pay it now... you can't pay directly to the VO, but you can pay to CPC Mississauga, and send them (together with your file number if you already have one, don't send anything if you don't have a file number, but I assume that you have received the sponsorship approval already as you mention the Sponsorship letter) the copy of the receipt. Send the same to your VO to inform them that you have already paid the fee ( if your file has been already transferred to the VO, otherwise wait), through a "case-specific enquiry". For Bucharest it's here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/missions/bucharest.asp you can attach a scan document, and inform them that the fee is paid - it will save you a bit of time at the end of the process).

The plan for your passport seems like a good one, especially if you live in one country, you're a national of another one, and your VO is in a third place! :) better to be prepared, and you seem to have a plan! :)

Good luck,
Sweden

Hi Sweden,

You are helping me a lot. I just have one more question: How can I be sure that the Bucharest VO has received my file? We have never heard anything from them. Just my husband received the sponsorship approval in the end of July where it is written that CIC Mississauga WILL transfer our file to our chosen VO. Since then no contacts or news. I tried to call Bucharest VO and they didn`t want to give me any information on the phone. My status shows `Application received` and `Medicals received`. Only this bothers me a bit.

Thank you so much again for the advice and the great help!
Best wishes!

Hi Blagogalia,

I didn't receive a confirmation also. And yes, I think they answer only to e-mails but not to every message. Unfortunately for me and my wife, they started to process my application 8 months after Mississauga approved me as a sponsor. So we are still waiting (11 months yet). Good luck to you and Merry Christmas!
