Hello, I had a study permit valid till March 2024, my old passport is expiring on the same date. So I renewed my passport and applied for a study permit extension. I got it approved which is valid til March 2025 and I have the new study permit in my hand.
But I see the new study permit came with the old passport number which is expiring in two months.

Will it be an issue at the time of re entry to Canada?

Yes, request them to update via webform

No, it shouldn't be an issue. Carry both the new passport and the expired one with the study permit when entering Canada. The border officials are accustomed to this situation and will verify the information to ensure a smooth re-entry.

Hello! Congratulations on successfully renewing your study permit and obtaining the extension until March 2025. Regarding the concern about the old passport number being associated with the new study permit, it's essential to take proactive steps to avoid potential issues during re-entry to Canada.

To address this situation, consider the following steps:

  1. Contact Immigration Authorities: Reach out to the relevant immigration authorities in Canada to inform them of the passport renewal and the associated change in passport number. They may provide guidance on updating the records to ensure smooth processing during re-entry.
  2. Update Your Records: Ensure that your records with the educational institution and any other relevant entities in Canada are updated with the new study permit details, including the correct passport number. This will help prevent any discrepancies during administrative processes.
  3. Carry Both Passports: When traveling, it's advisable to carry both your old and new passports along with the corresponding study permits. This will serve as a precautionary measure in case there are any questions or concerns at the border.
  4. Verify with Canadian Embassy/Consulate: If you have the opportunity, consider verifying the situation with the Canadian embassy or consulate. They can provide specific guidance based on your individual case and may offer additional recommendations to ensure a smooth re-entry.
  5. Keep Documentation Handy: Carry all relevant documentation, including the approval notice for the study permit extension, passport renewal documents, and any correspondence related to the updates. This can be useful if any clarification is needed at the border.
Remember that proactive communication and documentation are key to minimizing potential issues. Moreover, you can still ask 챗GPT for more. While it's generally advisable to address such concerns before travel, being well-prepared with the necessary documents should help ensure a trouble-free re-entry into Canada.
