ok my wife lives in costa Rica, i am going to sponsor her outland, my questions in the appendix A page, it says for marriage certificate: Government-certified true copies (copies certified as authentic by the issuing governmental authority, signed and sealed). What exactly does that mean? I already got my marriage certificate which my lawyer in CR gave me. I got it officially translated, certified and notarized by these people here http://languagemarketplace.com/ I want to know if everything is ok with what I did? thanks.

Sounds like it to me - but it's hard to judge without being able to see. What CIC wants is the official proof, as is customary in the country where the marriage took place, that the marriage is legally binding. In Canada, a marriage would be registered with the Province where it took place and the couple would order from the Registrar's office a certified copy of their marriage licence. Whatever the equivalent of that is in Costa Rica - that's what you need to submit.

when i did my notarized copy, i made sure to ask the person who was the authenticating the documents if they did similar work for persons who needed it for the Canadian Embassy. The person replied that the Canadian Embassy also sent people to them to have authentication done! So I was really happy about that. :) Perhaps there is some way you can check if its acceptable before you submit?

ok thanks, is there anyone specifically I can ask to see if my marriage certificate (which was translated, certified and notorized) is A ok to submit with my application kit, or maybe i can scan it and show it to someone here, those who went through the process already? thanks guys!

what does it mean when it says signed and "sealed", how do I know if my marriage certificate is sealed?

I am guessing that seal means like a stamp or something... or a sticker of some kind??? my marriage certificate has 4 stamps that say costa rica timbre, republica de costa rica, timbre colegio de abogados and republica de costa rica, does that make it sealed? man im so confused!!! help!

Gary

well mines is stamped wtih a special seal like its imprinted on the paper.
tell your wife to call and enquire if they normally do this for persons who require it for the embassy or email the embassy and ask if those people are acceptable.
don't worry too much. please. i am sure you be okay.
