My landing experience @ Tsawwassen BC

So I've been a real long time lurker of these CEC forums and just completed my landing today! I just want to happily thank everybody on this forum that's been very helpful in making this application process successful for me. The reason I haven't made an account here was that I wasn't truly confident I will get PR but in the end I did! So for those of you who are unsure or intimidated by the whole application process please go right ahead and go for it! It's a life changing experience and who knows what could of been if you don't go for it! I have decided to make an account also to help out current and future applicants of the CEC class :)

So today after receiving my CoPR last week I decided to do my border run out of the blue today since it's my day off and I'm bored so decided to go for it. I live in downtown Vancouver and have been told on these forums that Point Roberts don't do immigration landings. This is FALSE and that they actually do them, I don't know if it's recently been changed but trust me they do immigration landings there for both Visa's and Permanent residencies. It saved me the long trip of having to go down to White Rock too which would have taken me twice the amount of travelling. Also please do go to point roberts if you live closeby, there are no lines and it's such a fast landing process.

So I live in Downtown Vancouver and getting to Point Roberts port of entry @ Tsawwassen was easy. If you don't have a car the whole round trip costs $9.75 (day pass). Simply take the Skytrain from Downtown Vancouver city center to Bridgeport skytrain, the stations a few stops before the airport which is right outside the river rock Casino. Outside there should be a number 601 bus which drives all the way down to Tsawwassen. The journey was nice, lot's of lovely scenary and very different compared to Vancouver so might be something worth taking pictures along the way. I got off at 2nd Ave right next to a lovely park that you have to cross and the walk took an extra 10-15 minutes for me as I was taking pictures along the way.

I got to the US border at around 2PM and it was dead, by dead I mean there was only a line of 15 cars wanting to go into the small 2km piece of US land. So casually strolling by the cars I walked over to the US border and got asked to follow the footsteps into the US borderside building. Inside was probably one asian family and a mexican guy (got immediately called up), got greeted by an alright old guy who asked "what can I do for you young man". Showed him my landing paper and passport and he simply wrote on a piece of paper my country UK in big bold letters and FLAGPOLING in big gigantic capitals and told me to leave the building and go into the Canadian border building about 50M opposite.

Once over there I showed the flagpole letter and asked to go inside the building and show my documents. Of course inside it was dead, there were only two other people in the line a UPS delivery guy and one other guy activating a work visa too. Showed him my documents and he was confused why I had my lawyer address as the mailing address, I simply put I'm moving soon and I can't use my address. He asked why I'm moving and said my tenant agreement is up and he understood that and told me to wait few minutes. After about 5-10 minutes he called me back up and said he's going to use my lawyers address as the mailing address and gave me back all my documents, asked if I've been convited of any crimes any change in relationships etc. After that he went through the normal PR guidelines about my rights etc and quickly congratulated me, said to have a good one and quickly strolled back over to his co workers to chat... I think they were on lunch break or something.

So after that I left the building and have officially landed right before my 22nd birthday! I'm pretty choked about how easy it was and how much of a life changing experience this is, I can't put my head around how amazing it feels. The whole application period took exactly 9 months, I filed my application on June 27th and landed on march 26th :)

Hope this has helped anyone and will see ya'll around on the forums!

Thanks :D

I came to Canada before coming to University at the age of 19, found a job as soon as I got here. Loved Canada so much got a 2nd year visa instead of going to university, applied for CEC and got a 3rd year BOWP and here I am now.

Much better investment then going to university back home and being in debt :)

I live in Victoria and I'm looking for an easy way to land, but I'm fairly sure I'll have to leave the Island to do that. Is it easy to get to Point Roberts from Tsawwassen Bay?

Probably not since it only took OP about 15 mins to go there by foot!

Pft oh yeah. Once at the bay you can easily walk through twawssen, walk through is about a half hour minimum, also tswassen had lots of beautiful scenery on the way to point Roberts.

Re: My landing experience @ Tsawwassen BC

And thanks for pointing out that Tsawwassen indeed does offer immigration services.
By the looks of the official CBSA website, it doesn't offer these services, I guess that's why
users reported that it's not possible to complete the landing at the point roberts crossing.

Don't know about getting from Tsawwassen to Point Roberts, but I'm sure it can't be that hard. I'm from Victoria and drove/walked over to Peace Arch. Would have been real easy except the immigration guy filled my COPR out wrong, and I still haven't got it fixed - but maybe he was having a bad day.

I've also heard people say you can go on the Coho to Port Angeles and back - though I couldn't get a straight answer from CIC or CBSA about whether the ferry terminal could process PR. Wherever anyone goes, I recommend double checking the COPR :)

Good piece of advice!! Same counts for work permits or any other immigration documents. Always check the document
before leaving the PoE.

Yea, it's just that I kinda switch my brain off from the time I get on the bus and when I arrive at the Skytrain, I just assumed that it was highways and never really researched Point Roberts. It'd be much easier to head there than transfer onto the White Rock bus.

I'm getting ahead of myself, I only got DM last week and I'm waiting on my CoPR. & thanks OP for the pointer.

Congrats on landing at such a young age - that is awesome - and sharing this experience. Will surely help some people who want to land the same way.

Well, I don't know which industry you are in - I would still consider going to university. Just imagine the possibilities if you can work in both the EU and in Canada after without having to deal with paperwork, sponsoring etc. Good luck!
