My India Passport Expires on June 2016

Hello everyone,

can you help me with this situation.

- My India passport expires on 2016 June
- I am waiting for ITA, score is 482
- Now, in some future date I get ITA and successfully cross all hurdles, and hope I get PR and Land in Canada sometime next year,
then my India Passport expires in between.

what should I do,
- should I renew my passport now. (in renewing do I get a new Passport Number ?)
- cause I might need a valid passport to visit India new coming 3/4 years, isn't it?

please suggest.

Check with your local passport authorities if this is possible. Someone else on the forum had reported earlier that you can renew your Indian passport only within 3 months from the date of expiry.

Hello ,

You should renew your passport. Renewed passport will have a new passport number and not the old one. It should not take more than 2 weeks to get your new passport. I recently got my passport renewed as it was expiring next year in july. I got my passport in 4 days.

yes you need to take prior appointment with all the documents needed. Documents needed should be mentioned on govt official site. Yes once you get your new passport you should update your new passport details on CIC Profile.

You may do it anytime. Just need to notify CIC with LOE.

Hello,

Just make sure you have a complete scan including all pages (with markings and stamps) before you send it for renewal. Further in order to get your medical exam you need passport, as well for PCC.

but I have booked appointment for PCC on 25th of August. if I renew passport after that, do I need to give new passport number with explanation in any further forms.

I am little confused with the timeline and process. (I don't have ITA though, expecting to get in sometime future)

If I were you, I would have my passport renewed asap (i.e. before PCC).

And in India you can renew your passport one year from the date of expiry.

I think it is better to renew your passport and then proceed because if you renew after that, complications might arise. So, it is better to get it renewed first and then proceed. You can take an opinion from other members also.

Indian passport can be renewed 1 year prior to the date of expiry.
