Listening 6.5
Reading 6.0
Writing 6.0
Speaking 7.0

Average Band Score 6.5

First Language: English

Does it matter what I had put for my first language?

This was my first time taking the test, did not really study.

Very dissapointed and depressed! I guess I am out of luck for now!

So you get 4 points for speaking and 2 points for the other three categories, total 10 points but you need 16, right? Either you have to study more and take it again.. or study French so you can claim points for French also.. or find another way to get more points.. or find a job and come in on a temporary permit and get PR through PNP later.

Oh! i think you need much better than that to qualify as you mentioned on some other topic if I remember.

Well its yours first try and as without any quit enough practice. I also have to give this test but i need bands in between 5.0 - 7.0 (average category). As you gave the test, what's your opinion about achieving that bands value easily with a person like me with of modest level of English knowledge?

However, best of luck next time and also hope the change in policy for immigration for skilled persons will come out to be positive for all of us.

Thanks.

With immigration there are only 2 languages to choose from as first and second, English and French. It has nothing to do with what was your first language in real life. Whichever is your better language, English or French, for immigration purposes, you pick as first, the other one is second. It doesn't really matter except for the points system where you can get more points for your chosen "first" language than your 2nd so it would not make sense to pick your better language as second.

You guys do realize that certain PNP programs do not require this IELTS nonsense as long as it is it not required for your job like a nurse,Engineer etc.I just helped a Chinese bring in a friend as a Janitor,And He was only required to take ESL when he arrives,I believe He had an IELTS score of 2-2.5 He will be arriving in 3-4 months

Hi,

I was in the same situation last year, I had to take the IELTS 3 times until I reached the 12 points I needed.
Try again and again, you will make it , it is just a matter of a little bit of luck.

You need to practise with mock exams to score well. That way you get used to the format they use.

Hey Guys,

I have given IELTS FOUR times. I was not able to achieve 7 in each but I did achieved 7 or above in three of them and that gave me 14 and that's what I was looking for.

IELTS is a rip-off, even you know English very well, study here in the US and no matter you born here, they will still try to ding you by confusing and tricking you in questions. There are tricky questions which will confuse and you and you will do a mistake and then you sit in again and lose again, then again and again until they make the money.

$160 a pop plus frustration. I agree to test candidates in english, however don't scam them with IELTS tests or at least they should audit the test results.

I suggest you to change the center and try again, it may sounds very stupid but results change from center to center. It depends how the owner or franchisee run the center. I did the same thing and got different results.
