I'm an Australian citizen and am therefore eligible for a 2 year permit under the IEC program. However, when I entered Canada the officer misread my Letter of Entry - It said enter by 2016/06/26 - Valid until 2016/06/26, so a year from when I got offered it. I entered on 2015/06/30 but he only issued my work permit until 2016/06/26.
I wrote out a few emails to Canadian Immigration asking for an extension and got no response up until now, nearly 3 weeks away from my original permit expiring. Luckily, they've offered me another work permit but I'm looking for a bit of clarification. The permit was sent to me on 2016/06/05 and says a similar thing as above, to enter by 2017/06/30 - Valid until 2017/06/30. Exactly two years since I entered Canada the first time.
So this is why I'm confused. Are they working off my request for a 2 year permit and thus my new permit is valid until 2017/06/30 and no longer or is it only the letter that's valid until then? I mean it wouldn't make sense to issue me a permit for a week if I only entered a week before that. Because no where in the letter does it state how long I'll actually be issued a permit once I enter Canada, the letter mentions nothing about IEC and actually says at one point that workers are permitted to work a maximum of 4 years under work permit status. However, I'm sure they wouldn't offer me a 4 year permit (although I'd be absolutely cheering if they did)
Thanks.
