A U.S. Permanent Resident does not need a visa to enter Canada. If she visits you now in the U.S., she can cross the border with just her U.S. PR card and her State I.D./Driver's License. And whenever she visits you after December 31, 2007, she will need to cross the border with her passport.

She can marry you in Canada, and come back to the U.S. The sponsorship process goes very fast - usually between 5 to 7 months, when the person you are sponsoring lives outside of Canada. It is best that you sponsor her while she lives in the U.S. and NOT Canada.

You do not need a lawyer for this. Your situation seems straightforward.

Start your reading through this link and follow the link at the bottom of that web page: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/index.asp

She does not have to go back. She can always extend her stay. Initially, when she comes to Canada, she is entitled to stay in Canada for 6 months, and then apply for an extension if she wishes to stay longer.

The reason for my advice for her to come back to the U.S. is because I have heard that when the sponsoree (your future wife) lives in Canada, the completion of the process, for her to finally receive her PR status /card can take longer. Whereas, they tend to speed up the process when the sponsoree lives out of Canada in order to reunite them.

So, at the end of day, even if she applies while she is in Canada, she will receive her PR at some point in the future.
