Hi there,

my fiancee is coming up to visit me at the end of April, in which time we'll probably look at extending her visit so we can marry in the fall and apply for PR. We'll be telling customs that when we drive up together in April.

I wanted to ask if anyone here has any knowledge of the medical part of the PR application. My fiancee has TMJ disorder, it is a misalignment in her jaw bone that causes her to have stiffness in her mandible and it also causes her to have headaches and pain on a daily basis. She is prescribed medication for this and that medication (tramadol and valium) make her TMJ a managble day-to-day thing.

I was wondering how severe a medical issue has to be to be refused in the PR application? Or does it not matter since we are going through a family class sponsorship as husband and wife?

Spouse can't be refused on medical grounds for excessive demand. So unless some Dr. decides her TMJ is an infectious disease, she will have no problem with the medical

It definitely isn't infectious :) it's just a pain in an ass. Glad to hear that her need for prescriptions won't impede our application .

also if anyone reading this know: how long do the US medical and FBI checks last? I know they expire after a certain time period and I was wondering about that time frame. Cause my fiancee will be with me in Canada for about 6 or 7 months before we get amrried and send in her PR app. I have a feeling we'll have to go back down to the states to get her medical and FBI done, or can we do that from within Canada? (i.e. a canadian doctor performs the physical and the FBI mails us the whatever they send)

1. She can have the medical at any DMP in the world, it is actually cheaper in Canada. You get the FBI certificate by mail, where ever you live.
