Hi my Fiance is a Canadian Citizen like the subject line says :P But I am a US citizen I am looking to get married in Canada and then live there afterward. I am very confused about the Immigration process and what steps I need to take after I get married in Canada. What do I need to bring with me what paper work US SSN Birth Certificate etc..... After the process is started and all the paper work has been submitted and filed how long usually will it take for me to become a resident/citizen of Canada? After I get it all submitted how long till I can get a job? I hope I placed this in the right area..... Thanks :D

Read the first thread in the forum about sponsoring your spouse. Head to the CIC site to download the forms. Once you have your marriage certificate, your medical check, and your FBI check, you submit that, along with all the forms, to Mississauga. They will approve your spouse as your sponsor, then they forward it to the visa office, which would be Ottawa in your case. Straightforward cases have been taking around 8 months for US citizens.

Becoming a citizen is a completely different process and requires you to live in Canada as a permanent resident for 4 out of 6 years.

You can only work once you are a PR, or if you qualify for a work permit.

I suggest you to start with reading on CIC website first and filling out all the forms and getting ready all the documents before you come to Canada in case you have to travel back for certain documents.

Good luck
