Hello, I have a question. My fiancé wants to study in Canada (University of Manitoba) and she will need to upgrade her grades at the Winnipeg adult education center. My question is, will she have to apply and be accepted at the Winnipeg adult education center before she can apply for her study permit? Also, will the student visa work for that school.
Any help is apreciated, because I don't know what to do. Thanks.

the study permit applies for any school that is listed on the CIC website you can look it up online. It will work for the university but if they tell her its a prerequisite to go to the adult school in order to continue with the university then she will need a study permit for both. She needs a letter or the conditional offer from the university stating that she has to take courses at the adult high school then she will also need letter of acceptance/registration from the adult high school to apply for the study permit.

Thanks for the quick reply. Okay, so I have to have her apply to the U of M, and then get a conditional letter?

She has to apply to get a Letter of Acceptance to the program she wants to do.

Why did you mention she has to go to adult school? Is that something she personally thought to do to get her grades up or she spoke to someone at U of M that said she in order to get into the program she would have to do adult school?

The program she will enter is university 1, and her grade requirements don't match the requirements for university 1. So I know from experience what grades she needs to get into university 1 because i didn't meat the grade requirements when I applied either.
I don't really know how all this works, but from what I can understand. To get her started I have to 1.Get her applied 2. update her transcripts to be sure what grades she needs 3. then get the letter saying she needs to update her grades. 4. Apply for her student visa. Is this process correct?

Okay now i understand better.

The adult high school is not something the university suggested, in that case depending on how long the courses she is taking at the adult high school, she may be able to use her visitor visa to study. Normally if someone is here as a visitor and wants to take a course that is less than 6 months and it is not attached to a bigger university program or a prequisite they can go ahead and take that course without a study permit.

Now when she applies to university and gets the acceptance, then she would need a study permit once she gets the letter of acceptance but keep in mind she will also have to show she has the funds for her first year of university, tuition and living fees.

I hope this make sense
