Ok .. here is an update ... I ll keep it short..so busy these days and still no luck finding a job.
I had an interview with a company that sells furnaces, home heaters etc. Once there and on time, I had to again fill out an application form which I did like the rest in the room. Then a powerful presentation followed and we were told they seek for many new employee's as CSR, teamleader, trainer, assistant manager etc and during which was said that going to the clients is more effective and powerful than sending out folders and brochures or calling them and offering promotions etc, but wow, you could make like 750 bucks a week as trainer or 1200 a week, yes a week as assistant manager and you go figure how much more you could earn if you climb up the ladder.
Then the group was splitted in two and I was the first one to hand out my resume and app.form and the guy in front of me looked at it like in 3 minutes, asked if I am from Europe, If I speak other languages and then was given a business card and if I will call back and see if I am accepted or not but do not get disappointed if I get rejected and sure re-apply if so, etc. So they can set up an one on one appointment and further discuss the resume and opportunities and who knows I ll get a job.
They put lots of emphasis on the fact that being a MBA or a Doctor or whatever else with a high education and a wonderful resume doesn't mean you can be successful in this job etc. But you need to be a people's person, with a positive fun open attitude bla bla bla ...
But they didn't say what you were exactly going to do and how to do it!
Anyway, all looked too good to be true, got back home and called them back on time and as indicated on my card and I heard that I was rejected. At first I was upset. But this morning, I was talking to a lady who does network marketing and is professional in her field and she said " Oh you mean ....?" gosh, no, that is a door to door job and better you got rejected, did you appear in professional attire and on high heels etc?" I said "yes, off course". And it appears to be the indication for them that I am not going to waste my time looking for a job out on a hike around town hoping that people will buy their furnaces!
So, at least I know that now.
Then again, I came across this hiring job fair at Metro Toronto Convention Center and showed up there yesterday. Long queue and lots of people waiting in the lines to first apply for a certain position like server, bartender, kitchen staff, clean-up etc, and then were given tens of forms to fill out and then another queue and get in line to be registered and forwarded to an interview taker. I was surprised to hear that they don't hire "hostess" but I can apply for a job as dish washer or cleaner or server but I should realize that It requires being strong as you might need to pick up heavy items and be fast with cleaning and also clean up toilets and washrooms! ... I was looking at this interview taker in front of me and saw myself not a long time ago nagging that I had to call the Prime Minister and to set up an appointment again and he is always on travel and why they never can sit at home and so I can instantly set the meeting? and also complaining why my boss was always asking me to call the celebs and ministers and you name it all from all around the world to set up the meetings with and why he never told me which CAR he wanted to be prepared for him before leaving the office, his Mazeratti or Maybach or Jaguar etc. He had 7 luxuary cars and now this woman is offering me a job to clean the washrooms?!
Anyway... I did say Ok, I accept and so I did apply and will be hearing in two weeks if I am going to get a job which is casual and occassionally.
Who cares?! :
Today, had an interview with my hairdresser and during my visit there, I witnessed at least 3 girls, students, walking in and applying for jobs as receptionists or assistant and during my conversation with the hairdresser, a celebrity in Canada (
), and yes, very good in her work, that in order to find jobs, I should really print my resume and go to offices, enter the buildings, check on the billboard which companies are located inside the tower or that location and go to them and apply for jobs! Gosh, that is a hell of a job if you live in Toronto! .. how on Earth do I do that?
But yes, it is better to appear in person and ask for an HR person and wait it out.
So I already been to two hotels and been speaking to the HR people there, handing out my resume and filling out applications and just waiting now.
Tormorrow to another job interview and hope this one be more positive and result in a job, even though seasonal.
Oh gosh, it is so difficult to find a job. I don't know what to do to just get an office job? :'( ...
Anyway, decision is made. If I can't secure a job before end of April, I ll be back in Amsterdam, on May 1st. :
But I won't give up.
We will see ...
