Oh Thank God ... on a Sunday morning, walking to the shower and there is a phone... got an invitation for a job interview, it will be in retail but it is seasonal, but it is better than nothing.

I really try hard to find a job, but needs patience and time .... see what will happen. I really need to upgrade you all with some more findings on my side.

:)

Good Luck!
Viel Glück!

How are you lastly health wise? Did you get a chance to visit doctor and using health insurance card? I guess you would have already visited 2 times for that problem back home.

Glad to hear that! As you said its better than nothing, and trust me, it may be an opportunity in disguise, here in Mexico about 4 years ago I got my first job ever (I was 17 at the time) as a minimum wage computer technician, However this did not stopped me from applying. Fast forward 1 year and I was already on the top as an assistant of the company's owner.

The owner saw my dedication and I got promoted quickly, he even let me in charge of the business a few times. Sadly, due to the increasing violence over here, he decided to close the business, but I learned a lot, became a good friend of the owner and every now and then i get called to do some it jobs.

Just keep going! All my best wishes to you!!

P.D. I just found out im gonna be finishing college on may 2012 and want to do my Masters over there and possibly apply for a PNP for masters graduates, if god permits.

My question is when should i start with all the paperwork required? do you or anyone here knows about scholarships for international students?

Thank you very much! Hope to get to know you and all the people who have helped me trough this forum soon!

Ok .. here is an update ... I ll keep it short..so busy these days and still no luck finding a job.

I had an interview with a company that sells furnaces, home heaters etc. Once there and on time, I had to again fill out an application form which I did like the rest in the room. Then a powerful presentation followed and we were told they seek for many new employee's as CSR, teamleader, trainer, assistant manager etc and during which was said that going to the clients is more effective and powerful than sending out folders and brochures or calling them and offering promotions etc, but wow, you could make like 750 bucks a week as trainer or 1200 a week, yes a week as assistant manager and you go figure how much more you could earn if you climb up the ladder.

Then the group was splitted in two and I was the first one to hand out my resume and app.form and the guy in front of me looked at it like in 3 minutes, asked if I am from Europe, If I speak other languages and then was given a business card and if I will call back and see if I am accepted or not but do not get disappointed if I get rejected and sure re-apply if so, etc. So they can set up an one on one appointment and further discuss the resume and opportunities and who knows I ll get a job.

They put lots of emphasis on the fact that being a MBA or a Doctor or whatever else with a high education and a wonderful resume doesn't mean you can be successful in this job etc. But you need to be a people's person, with a positive fun open attitude bla bla bla ...

But they didn't say what you were exactly going to do and how to do it!

Anyway, all looked too good to be true, got back home and called them back on time and as indicated on my card and I heard that I was rejected. At first I was upset. But this morning, I was talking to a lady who does network marketing and is professional in her field and she said " Oh you mean ....?" gosh, no, that is a door to door job and better you got rejected, did you appear in professional attire and on high heels etc?" I said "yes, off course". And it appears to be the indication for them that I am not going to waste my time looking for a job out on a hike around town hoping that people will buy their furnaces!

So, at least I know that now.

Then again, I came across this hiring job fair at Metro Toronto Convention Center and showed up there yesterday. Long queue and lots of people waiting in the lines to first apply for a certain position like server, bartender, kitchen staff, clean-up etc, and then were given tens of forms to fill out and then another queue and get in line to be registered and forwarded to an interview taker. I was surprised to hear that they don't hire "hostess" but I can apply for a job as dish washer or cleaner or server but I should realize that It requires being strong as you might need to pick up heavy items and be fast with cleaning and also clean up toilets and washrooms! ... I was looking at this interview taker in front of me and saw myself not a long time ago nagging that I had to call the Prime Minister and to set up an appointment again and he is always on travel and why they never can sit at home and so I can instantly set the meeting? and also complaining why my boss was always asking me to call the celebs and ministers and you name it all from all around the world to set up the meetings with and why he never told me which CAR he wanted to be prepared for him before leaving the office, his Mazeratti or Maybach or Jaguar etc. He had 7 luxuary cars and now this woman is offering me a job to clean the washrooms?!

Anyway... I did say Ok, I accept and so I did apply and will be hearing in two weeks if I am going to get a job which is casual and occassionally.

Who cares?! ::)

Today, had an interview with my hairdresser and during my visit there, I witnessed at least 3 girls, students, walking in and applying for jobs as receptionists or assistant and during my conversation with the hairdresser, a celebrity in Canada ( :p ), and yes, very good in her work, that in order to find jobs, I should really print my resume and go to offices, enter the buildings, check on the billboard which companies are located inside the tower or that location and go to them and apply for jobs! Gosh, that is a hell of a job if you live in Toronto! .. how on Earth do I do that?
But yes, it is better to appear in person and ask for an HR person and wait it out.

So I already been to two hotels and been speaking to the HR people there, handing out my resume and filling out applications and just waiting now.

Tormorrow to another job interview and hope this one be more positive and result in a job, even though seasonal.

Oh gosh, it is so difficult to find a job. I don't know what to do to just get an office job? :'( ...

Anyway, decision is made. If I can't secure a job before end of April, I ll be back in Amsterdam, on May 1st. ::) But I won't give up.

We will see ...

Charlotte,

as soon as you began your post, I was thinking in my head "Oh no, she got into another one of those type of jobs". I tell you, I can smell them a mile away! These companies always have 'great' presentations that leave you thinking, wait, is this too good to be true?? Ugh...

Anyway, I'm glad you are keeping busy and trying many different things... Don't lose hope.. If you have given yourself until April, you still have a good bit of time. keep doing what you are doing, and never stop talking to people. Someone may know someone who needs someone!

Still following your story! Good luck

Oh my god,

I can't imagine you are going through interviews for such kind of jobs.
May be you need to make some down to earth friends, who may help you to find work in stores, warehouse or supermarkets....
I hope you will survive there....

It seems like the country is being BROKERS PARADISE, rather than a systematic modern society...you have to go through brokers for language, education, job, house and everything....and those are always gathering mass of people to increase their statistical significance...
.....god bless the politicians over there, god bless Canada.

Ah well, I kind of always figure if a job regards scam or not, but this one was really truly well disguised and am happy I found out about their true face and that their rejection won't hurt me at all, in fact I am happy they refused me.

I had an interview at Home Depot today. The interview taker was a lovely woman and after having answered all her cases and how I dealt with such in previous situation if any present, I had to role play and I did a great job off course. Then I was asked to fill out forms and if I might have two pieces of ID with me? I had my PR card and my OHIP with me. So, I agreed to give her my OHIP card and that was ok, I know it isn't wise to do so, but I did trust her and she was happy I did trust her in that and all was fine. At the end she told me that there will be a second interview shortly after this one and before leaving the room, she added with a big smile that if the assistant manager is not going to hire me, she will! ;)

I also attended an YMCA workshop today and learnt about how to start your own business and that was useful.

So far so good ...

Also, a friend of mine, a lovely British girl who was too looking for an office job, just got herself one through a friend she knows. I am so happy for her as she now can stay here in Toronto.

Anyway ... soon jobs will pick up and sales will go up and more work will be there and maybe we will have a better summer and a much better holiday season this year, but then I sure will be working at Holt Renfrew! ::) :D

something I want to share with all of you ... :D and am sure this will give you an impression of what else is possible here, in Canada, that we may not always get what we want or achieve all our goals, but with such people in this country, nothing will go wrong as long as you act like them and be like them and walk the path of life with such positive attitude and learn and be blessed for having met them.

I had an interview with this lovely lovely super intelligent fun young man who is the volunteer co-ordinator at Rogers TV and who I had met and who asked me questions regarding my life etc as to decide if I will be allowed and admitted to take part at Rogers TV and Studio's to volunteer and contribute and learn things, or not this afternoon.

What a lovely place, I saw a lot and was amazed by each and every little corner or section we went to and the explanations.

Even if I don't get the volunteering part and the required training which will be pushing me towards a wonderful future here in Canada, yet again I was told something by this wonderful man that impressed me and had such an impact on me that I want to share with you.

I asked him what happens if somebody is not good enough or can't do it etc to which he answered:

We do train them to succeed and not to fail!
:)

I was like " wow"! such powerfully positive answer and yes, we shall not give up and be training ourselves at all times and in all aspects of life as not to fail but to ONLY and ONLY succeed in our paths and to achieve our goals and pursuit our dreams.

That is Rogers!
:)

Wish such people on board, what else can go wrong eh?!

But these magical words, have had such an impact on me personally that I sure wanted to share them with you all.

Good luck and God bless you. :D

I guess working as a sales associate was already a survival job even though it was for a month!!!! ??? :'(
I 've been applying for many jobs that are FAR below my level like even at Tim Hortons or as House keeping at Hotels, all hotels across downtown, but none did hire me although I do follow up on them.

It is probabely my resume or my looks, I appear to be too much of anything for many of these companies. Being pretty and tall isn't considered a blessing in this town obviously, cause I see many people who possess like 1% of my appearance and 0% of my attitude and positive energy and friendliness, yet they are all having jobs, also survival jobs?!

Anyway ... I don't know ... I keep trying... I 've been to Home Depot, to Blockbuster, to Many shops and restaurants and applied for waitress too, but no!

I guess if things keep going at this rate, I will sooner or later update you all with news that I am back in the Netherlands and having my previous job back, working for the members of the Royal Family!

Hey Charlotte;

Remember that any fact facing us is not as important as our ATTITUDE towards it, for that determines our sucess or failure. So always remeber that your attitude is what's keeping you going so far, don't give up on it.
