Finally with my hubby! It has been 5 years and 5 days waiting for this moment! (But who is keeping track? Lol)

Border crossing was a complete joke. Of course I was over prepared. I had every proof possible. Thinking they were going to ask me a million questions.

This is how it went down (I drove and crossed at the Thousand Islands Bridge).

Officer: Hello / Bonjour

Me: Hello

* I handed him my Nexus Card*

Officer: Where do you live?

Me: NYC

Officer: where are you going?

Me: Ottawa

O: for what purpose?

Me: to spend holidays with my husband.

O: Any alcohol, tobacco or firearms?

Me: No, but I have my cat with me.

O: ok, have a nice night.

*handed me back my nexus card*

All the anxiety and preparation - and here I am! Lol

It literally took less than 1 Minute! :o

Good news! Did they stamp your passport or do you just assume you are good for 6 months?

I don't use my passport. I have implied 6 months with my Nexus Card. They haven't Stamped my passport in years. :-/ but I am sure they keep track of my crossings! Lol

Gotta love those Nexus cards. I'm singing "swee-eet" every time I cross with mine.

I wonder if Canada PR holder with Nexus Card can get into US ?

In order to have a nexus card you have to be approved by both the USA and Canada as a low-risk traveler and pass the security background checks in both countries. Therefore that would be a yes.

It really makes a huge difference. I truly was worried but it was so easy!

That made me chuckle...the anxiety this PR things causes everyone is a nightmare! Enjoy the hols with your husband though!

May I ask why it took 5 YEARS to get your immigration sorted? Was that just for PR, or do you mean PR and citizenship?

We just applied. We have been long distance for 5 years because I did my Bachelors and Masters in the USA.

So personal reasons. Immigration has moved along rather ok so far *knock on wood*

Lol

Better to be over-prepared than under-prepared right!
Glad everything went well for you

I was the same when my husband and I came back from a vacation during my Outland process
I literally had a small binder full of "proof" that I didn't even need in the end; the officer just looked at my (visa-exempt)passport, stamped it and waved at our baby. Done and done!

They actually asked you a few questions! :)

In airports, you don't even talk to anyone.

At land crossings it is variable. Usually when I pull up to the booth, the guy looks at my face (to match the photo he has in his system) and then says have a nice day and that is it. Sometimes I'll get the same level of questions that you got.

In any case as you know, NEXUS makes things a snap!

Also Canadian or US PR card holders who are not a citizen of either country must have had their PR for at least 3 years before being eligible for Nexus

Hi Mariac819 and Keesio,

Thank you very much for the clear answers about Nexus Card.

Cheers

By land i only get to get through with out questions when i use the nexus lane but they are never open when I cross lol. Plus I had my cat. You can't use a nexus lane if you have an animal with you.

Airports also, if you have an animal you have to go through customs. At which point nexus just serves as ID.

But I do love airports!!!! Never have to talk to anyone. Lol
