Dear Sir,

I have completed my B.Tech in 2005 (CSc)
Went to US in Fall 2006 and Got MBA (Finance) with distinction GPA 3.8/4.0 in Dec 2008

From Dec 2008 - Dec 2009 I didn't work as I was in US till June 2008 and came back to India, took some time to settled down. Since Dec 2009 - Present - I am working as Assistant Project Manager in an IT company

IELTS Score: 7.0 (L-8.5),S-7.0,R(7.0) and W(6.0)

I got admission in Humber for Project Management PG Diploma - Fall 2012

What are chances that I will get Student Visa under SPP for Canada?

I would really appreciate your reply on this.

Regards,

Neha

Hi,

In my personal opinion, as long as you have valid records/proof of your present employment, strong finances and an educational loan approval letter, your overall chances are pretty good. The previous gap, you can mention in the student questionnaire form, as the time travelling across U.S, searching for a job back in India etc. and thereby indicating that you are a genuine student, who after completion of studies.. due to American economic meltdown, chose to come back to India and pursue a job here. ;)

Under SPP, you MUST show: Copy of an Educational Loan from an Indian Chartered Bank equivalent to at least 80% of tuition +living + travel expenses for one academic year. Rest 20% you can 've personal funding from any other valid source/relative. But the Bank loan is most important, that too from one of the recognized banks as listed by CHC.

My concern here is that Am I overqualified for the PG diploma in project management ..as already have MBA from US and I am applying under SPP, is that alright?

Thanks and Regards,

Hi,

Yes, on paper you are... But there have been cases, where Master's degree holders from countries like India, UK etc. have been given visa to PG diploma/cert. courses. It all depends on the individual profile...and how you show the VO's (probably by writing a short 1 page SOP) that, this Canadian qualification is relevant to you, to your future career aspirations etc. In my opinion, Project management can definitely be relevant to you, because you have managerial level work experience, especially in the IT sector, where completion of projects, and working under pressure to meet strict deadlines is common... and hence this qualification can be seen as a way to upgrade your existing skills and complement your current qualifications and work experience. Thus, it all really depends on how you present it, the VO issuing the visa and your overall luck. Don't worry. Go for it.

***This is my purely my personal opinion, and you should consult other sources too.

Best of Luck.

Hi,

1. I always avoid posting on "visa chances". Still I believe your academic profile is very strong and you have a good chance with PGD in Project Management. It's NOT a stated rule that you can't opt PG Diploma/Certificate after MBA. If your profile is strong, you are good to apply for "any course". I am aware of at least 3 MBA's (from India) with approved visa for PGD courses in Project Management and Global Business Management at Humber.

I agreed boss with your words to word.
i believes studymismatch reason has nothing to do with applicant if his academic grades r outstanding.(I mean it makes sense of genuine students)

I believes generally V.O gives reason of studymismatch when V.O wants to refuse applicant on the basis of poor academics.

cause recently from this forum atleast i found 2 members secured visa in advance diploma course after 4 years bachelor degree.(both were above 1st class grades in Bachelor)
