If you are applying for winter there wouldn't be much competition so you may have a chance and considering the cost of living in Vancouver the volume of applications to Alberta is far more than UBC...I can't be sure of anything because this is Canada we are talking about anything can happen....

If you are awarded grades and cgpa, then unfortunately most of the universities require 8/10 cgpa from non iitians, however, U of Alberta & U of Regina requires 7/10. There are some universities which calculates your GPA in canadian scale and it depends upon there conversion and your luck from then onwards. I would suggest apply to UBC, Mcgill, Alberta,Regina(Safe option) and atleast 2 more. It would be great if you can give or have GRE.

CGPA of 8 at our college would mean 80% in bachelors ... 80% ???
isnt that too high a barrier

Yes, the universities require 60% if your marks are in percentages but if its in grades, brother they require 8/10. I have mails from some universities where they explicitly rejected my profile cause I didnt have 8/10. So before applying confirm with the universities, The universities that I mentioned in my previous reply are safe. Also! you can apply to U of Saskatchewan and U of Ottawa. Ask universities before applying.

In our case, we also have a certificate from our college that shows how they give CGPAs
and it clearly states that % = CGPA*10
Most other colleges (IITs and NITs) give relative percentile type GPAs.
But ours is absolute ... Any comment on that
