Hi R Brar,

The Manitoba site does not state how long the person should be living in that region. However, its states that the person should have lived in Manitoba for at least 1 year.

Guys, I need advice specially from those who already received their LAA... I had a job that I left in Taiwan 16 years ago. The company was already closed for bankruptcy and unfortunately, I was not able to keep the certificate of employment from the said company. Does the certificate from work 16 years ago will be required by CIC? After employment from that company, I worked to 3 different companies and all have employment certificates.

Hi R Brar,

It appears you won't be able to claim additional 50 points because looking at the way the points are made preference is given to your closest relatives location. Because the asked on their EOI that do you have a closer connection living in another province other than Manitoba? Its because they think you are more likely to go back there.
So going by this they will likely believe you still come back to Winnipeg. Then they will not want to give that 50 points.

All said the only way to know what will happen is if you fill the EOI stating that you have close relative in Winnipeg and distant one in another region.

Cheer up if you don't get it. 200 points for close relative is more valuable than 50 points for distant relative. You can still go and live with your distant relative when you get there. The most important thing is for you to get there first.

Best wishes

I don't think you need it. the number of years Manitoba requires is past 5 years, maximum past 10 years from cic. So don't worry yourself

They will never invite you to apply if you ever mention that you any other relative in Canada be it close or distance. That's the fact.

If you have no sponsor, you have the option to apply through Manitoba Invitation -->

Exploratory Visits

The MPNP accepts – only during set periods – expressions of interest to make an exploratory visit to Manitoba. Watch this page for news of 2015 intake dates.

Eligibility criteria to participate in visits and missions are subject to change but generally include that you:
•are between the ages of 21 to 45
•can satisfy the MPNP that you do not have a stronger connection to another province
•can demonstrate the employability and adaptability required of all MPNP applicants
•have completed at least a one-year, post-secondary education or training program for which you received a diploma, degree or certificate
•have worked at least two years full-time in the past five years and can demonstrate your ability to find a job in Manitoba in that occupation (including plans to achieve licence/certification in the case of regulated occupations)
•have the genuine intention and ability to economically establish and settle in the Canadian province of Manitoba as a permanent resident demonstrated, in part, with a Settlement Plan
•provide to the MPNP, at the time you apply to participate in the initiative, official results of an approved language test taken within the past two years showing you achieved scores equivalent to at least CLB 5 in each test category and overall.
