Hi there my names Jason I'm 25 Scottish. I have a job set up and ready for me i will be a heavy goods vehicle mechanic.

My plan :
i plan to go over to Canada by myself for about 3 months to get sorted Flat , etc .. now some things i keep thinking about how much money should i bring with me ? a rough estimate would be great ! I'll re-cap at the end. So once i have been out there for about 3 months my girlfriend and my dog were to fly over also. looking to rent a 1 bedroom to start with hopefully will allow pets. does anyone know how likely that is and prices?. so while I am there alone, I have got to look at getting a cell-phone and internet set up, transport to work.. is public transport expensive and reliable ? how about prices of a car or rental be cheaper ? and with me being alone i can eat fairly cheaply what could i be looking at for a month for food ? anyone been through same sort of experience ?

So that's all i have really for now if anyone else has a bit more input to help me on my life changing move, i am all ears and appreciate it alot ! and also if your moving to Edmonton yourself maybe get in contact and help each-other out until we find out feet?

so re cap

* 1 bedroom house /flat prices ( would allow pets) do i need a deposit ?
* how much money should i bring with me at least a minimum estimation ?
*phone contract prices (nothing too fancy) ?
*internet connection (name of a company and rough prices ) ?
*public transportation prices ?
* car rental or buying a car worth it ?
* prices for food for a month 1 person (not a fussy eater :p)

Thank you very much for any input ! also if you prefer contact me on my email

Our condo nearby Calgary costs 1250 pr month with utilities such as water and heat.
but you can get single bedrooms for much cheaper such as only $900 pr month or less.. deposit is usually the full months price. Go look up condos/apartments for rent in Edmonton or surrounding areas.

Internet and phone bills for us are 100 for phone and around 80 for internet.. I'd go with Shaw for internet, it's cheap and has decent plans. I made a horrible decision to go for Rogers (phone company) which charges me over 100 a month sometimes.. FIDO is cheap and has really good deals.

As to car, I have no idea unfortunately.. but gas is cheaper than in Europe for sure :)

So google some condos/apartments for rent in the area you're planning on to live, we found it somewhat tough to find a decent place, so do it in good time. Fido for phone plans and Shaw for internet/tv that's what I think is cheap and good.

Hope this helps a little.
