Hello all,

I am Brazilian living and studying in the United States on a student visa. My partner is Canadian and lives in Canada. We met in the United States while he was living in the United States. We are married and I plan on moving to Canada and he will sponsor me once I am there. I have a tourist visa for Canada and have been traveling back and forth, from the United States to Canada regularly.

My question: When I plan to officially move to Canada and the border guards ask me how long I plan to stay. What do I say? Is it okay to say I am married to a Canadian and we plan on applying for PR.

You are not entitled to move to Canada until your sponsorship is complete. Arriving at the border and indicating you are moving here is a sure fired method to be returned on the next available transport. You will need to asure the CBSA that your intent is to return to the US and you have solid ties to the US.

Better have a return ticket so, you will have an answer to the BCSA agent, the date of your return ticket.

Good luck.

Show a proof that you have attachments in the US: education, work, property, family, etc. A return ticket helps also. If you travel back and forth regularly, they probably won't question it. Good luck!
