I am a Canadian Citizen by birth - and am sponsoring my husband to come to Canada (currently waiting on my application to be approved - we've already submitted) He is a United States Citizen. When my husband comes to Canada and becomes a PR, is he allowed to still work in America? We live VERY close to the American border about a 30 minute drive from his current work in America, so if possible he could just cross the border every day for work. Is he allowed to do this, with no issues?
Do we have to apply for a work visa in US even though he is a united states citizen with Canadian PR?
Also if he is a PR of Canada and we decide 5 years from now we want to move to united states instead, is that easy to do - does is US citizenship stay in place?

Thanks!

I believe he can commute to work in the states. As long as he returns home in Canada after. But keep a very good record (use a spreadsheet) on EVERYDAY that he crosses. He will need that information for his PR card renewal and citizenship application.

My hubby is struggling because he did those casual gas filling and US packages pickup trips and never noted the dates down. Now he has no idea.... and is thus procrastinating for his Canadian citizenship application.

He is an American. He can work in the state and do not need any visa.

He is an American and he will forever be and need to file US tax no matter where he works (if he switches job to a Canadian company).

For moving to US, you will need to find out how he can get you a visa/green card as a spouse.

Do you know anywhere where I can find this information about being a Canadian PR but working in the states? I've been struggling to find any information on it in the official canada gov websites. We'll definetely have to keep a record of all the trips accross the border. I was worried it would affect his Canadian PR since he'd be going to America nearly every day - Monday-Friday for work.

At this current moment in our lives we wanted to live in Canada - but I feel like a few years from now there is a possibility of living in the united states (the canadian dollar is so bad - and everything is SOO expensive in the Toronto GTA compared to the Buffalo,NY area) so I just wanted to make sure its possible to move to America with no issues if we wanted to even though we just applied for him to come to Canada - If that makes sense!

I don't have the "direct" information.

But if you go to the Physical Presence Calculator for citizenship application (link below), you can see the day still count if the leaving and returning is the same day.

Others may want to chip in for the official information page. I used to commute and work in the States but I was already a Canadian citizen back then. (Had US work visa)
