Hi
I am in Florida and will be moving to Ontario Canada this month end on a work permit. I plan to drive from Florida in my own car
I have a 2019 Honda CRV with very low miles on it. Can some one advise on what is the process to import the car and the approx cost involved ?

Please advise.
1 - What port of entry should i choose so i can enter Canada in my own car and import the car
2 - Can i carry personal belongings in the car - like moving boxes etc in the trunk ?
3. I checked on the option to ship it but its very expensive - Approx 1800 USD.
4. On second thoughts does it make sense to just sell it here and buy another one in Canada ?

First I guess it depends how long you are going to be in Canada as to whether it is worth the cost. I have no personal knowledge but here's a couple links to get you going. Do a google search for more info. Good luck.

I'll try to answer the questions to my best knowledge- based on experiences of a few of my friend
1. You can drive / ship your car - your choice based on what works best for you - but even if you are driving thru the border- you need to
engage a professional exporter/importer (just for the paperwork)- i believe that's what CBP/CBSA recommends . Do you own the car and have your name on your title - if so that's great - if its on a lien- you will have to pay it out and own the car before you move it across the border.
2. You can put in small boxes -etc especially since you are driving - if you are transporting - there are chances of the boxes damaging your car during transit
3 & 4 - You may want to shop around but 1800 sound reasonable considering its from Florida. If you think 1.8k is expensive, just wait till you see the Car insurance rates in Ontario - its one of the highest ! esp when compared to US

Thanks. yes i will probably sell it if i get a good price. I doest look worth the hassle.
Biggest pain is i cant sell it in Canada if I want to as its only a temp import.

If you are looking to return back to US within a span of 2 years - temporary import will be the best option. since you would anyway end up losing money on selling and buying a new vehicle for each move. The importer would chanrge around $100 for the paperwork. you may need to spend another CAD$100 for Ontario registration and that's it .
