Hi all,

Has anyone got any knowledge or experience of moving to Canada before the PR application is approved?

I submitted my PR application in Aug 18, after I finally got my ITA through. I know it should take approx 6 months to process so I am thinking of heading to Canada in Jan 19 (a few months ahead of time)

I have left my employment (long story) and now just living off savings. If I move to Canada now (on a visitors visa) it will be cheaper to live there than in the UK. But I wonder if anyone has any experience that could offer different opinions/advice?

Thanks,
Steve

Where in Canada would you like to move to? Small cities are cheaper, big cities are pricier just like anywhere.
How much are you spending in UK? Of course, you can get tons of CAD for the pound. So it depends on a lot of factors.

Hey thanks for the reply. I'll be moving to Ontario, Barrie. I've looked through Airbnb and costs for housing is about the same and I have already changed pounds for CAD as I didn't think BREXIT was going to help with the exchange rate.

I'm curious if moving early on a visitors visa would cause any issues with IRCC and my application.
Also if I would need a return flight or just be able to show enough funds should I need to return.

You cannot move to Canada until your PR visa is approved. If you attempt to move to Canada using visitor status, you may run into issues at the border. If you're going to try this, strongly recommend that you have a return ticket (they're usually cheaper than one ways). Also, bring minimal personal belonging (what you would bring for a 2-3 week tourist trip) and leave the rest back home. You can bring everything else once you are a PR.

Thanks for your message. I hadn't thought about the appearance of arriving with excess baggage, so that is a good point .
