Hi,

May I ask for your opinion about something in my case ?
I am planning to move to another province in 2-3 months.
Currently I am in Alberta and moving to Ontario. Although my plans are not 100% fixed with the dates, I will be moving to my friend's place in Ontario.
My file just started processing (Feb 17 2014). Do you think I should keep the address as it is (and ask my roommate to check mails for me) or I should change the address to Ontario right now ?
When would you think my file gets transferred to the local office ?

Thanks a lot.

I have a similar problem and am really confused

Hi everyone,

I applied for my citizenship in June 2011 and received letter of acknowledgement on 22nd June 2012. My application started getting processed in Jan 2013 and was transfered to surrey office in Sep 2013.

my situation is a bit complicated:
Unfortunately I lost my job and have moved to Calgary to look for work and to live with my finacee.
My fiancee and I are getting married next week
since i moved to AB in beginning of Dec, I have discontinued my BC health plan from february onwards(mentioning about this because if i havebc heath card it is kind of a residece proof)
Besides, to make situation worse, I just realized that i have lost my PR card.

My dilema is that should I change my address as CIC suggests on its website. It seems to me that I am really close to the 24 month time frame that they have mentioned on their website and transferring file to calgary will make it worse or so I think....

my concern is, should I chage my address or should I let it be? Will it be considered illegal?

please please please help me. Am veryvery very confused and directionless

You should change your address to that of where you live to avoid complications at the interview/ test because the CIC officer may take the view you are untruthful with other aspect of your applications but more importantly so you can receive timely communication about your application e.g. test invite, RQs etc.

If CIC send these notifications to their address on file which you don't actually live at then if you don't respond your application gets closed. CIC is effectively becoming a 1 notice institution so if you miss anything you may have to kiss your application goodbye unless you have a good reason...I forgot to update my correct address doesn't cut it.

Actually sometimes the move works for the best e.g. the person moving from AB to ON. AB is slow ON is fast so in the end you will likely get your citizenship faster.

Thank you for your response. My concern is that I am only 4 months away as my 24month period gets over on june 22. Besides am moving from bc to ab. In addition all my mails are being forwarded to my new address as I have taken this facility with Canada post. I am told changing province can delay the application up to a year by cic call center. Do you still suggest I change address?

From what I have seen on different forums is that people who moved to Ontario have been getting RQ's for some reason, I am assuming because local CIC office can't do a background check when you claim that you were living in a different province. It is definitely going to process faster in Toronto, Mississauga or Scarborough than it would in Alberta thats for sure. So if you dont mind risking to get an RQ then you should probably change your address to Ontario otherwise I would suggest you leave it as is and hope Alberta applications move faster that they are right now.

If the application has been transferred to the local office, most probably the applicant has passed the CSIS, FOSS & RCMP clearance (background checks). So the new local office wouldn't have any problem proceeding with the application.
