Moving out of a country where I applied for Canadian PR due to Visa expiry, what to do?

Hi everyone,

Can someone please advise on my critical case. I'm really worried and actually scared because I'm really counting on the Canada PR application.. which is now undergoing a background check (IP2 stage), and I am supposed to expect the Canadian Visa office in Singapore (the country where I worked and applied online from) to contact me to stamp the visa anytime from now.

Recently, the Singaporean government started making it harder for foreigners to be employed, just so local citizens could replace them. Now given that, I got affected by the new trend and my Visa renewal got rejected. I cannot stay anymore and need to leave very soon. I'll travel to the US and stay there for a few months. In the meantime, I'm waiting for the Canadian Visa office in Singapore to contact me.

Should I inform CIC about my new address in US/Iraq to transfer my application to the US or my home country Iraq? Or shall I wait for the email to come from Canada's Visa office in Singapore and travel there again as a visitor to stamp the visa?

I communicated my situation to them through the online form, and all I got is that they're working on it and will inform me when the result is out. This doesn't tell me anything. Has anybody been in this situation? Help please! I really can't jeopardize my application. I don't want it to get rejected when the office realizes I'm not anymore a resident of Singapore!

I don't think it matters where you reside when the visa is granted, your application is on GCMS and is available to all Canadian missions.

Update them with your new address and advise them why you had to leave. They will update your application accordingly and may or may not move it to your home country. If you are already close to visa approval and you end up in the US they very well might just have you submit your passport to Ottawa for stamping rather then sending it to Singapore. Having to move during a PR application does not kill the application so don't panic.
