Moving from Toronto for PR?

Hello guys,

My friends and I are planning to move on Alberta a few months from now, this is because we have heard that it is easier to get a provincial nomination there compared to Toronto where things are competitive and crowded. I do have a few questions though.

After we move to Alberta, what happens next? What can we do to fasten up our rate of getting a PR invitation?


Do we have to look for an LMIA job? How do I update my PR profile? I am just clueless. Do I need to work for 1 year or 2 years to get a Provincial nomination? please help

Read AINP site before you move and understand the process. Not sure how you think it is easier or faster. Look at past draws and the NOCs with scores. Look at breakdown of nominations as focus is on family, IT, health and ag. You may not be nominated if your NOC is not in demand.

Please research Alberta's programs in detail now before you make any plans to move. There's really no shortcut to this apart from hiring an immigration lawyer or consultant to help you. Good luck.

I am in the same boat. I worked for 7 month sin Ontario as a tech support but few people were saying that Alberta is better for tech support. Is that true? ALsi as I ahve already completed 7 months in Ontario, if I move to Alberta, do I need to start from scratch in terms of Canadian work experience?

Have you even read the AINP guidelines? Moving without doing any research on if you will even get PR is not advised. Do you even have a job offer? Everyone seems to want to move to Alberta thinking the PR process is easier.

In Ontario tech support jobs don't always come under tech draw. Alberta also has a tech draw where they include tech support so I am confused.
Also no, I don't have a job offer from Alberta(I can start looking).

But the Alberta Tech draw requires a job offer with eligible employer. You do know that right. You have read the AINP requirements.

Oh I actually didn't know that only selected employer are eligible in Alberta. Thanks so much for the information. I am checking AINP requirements again now.

• you meet the Minimum requirements of the Alberta Express Entry Stream set out above
• you are working full-time in Alberta under an employment contract or have a bona fide job offer for full-time employment based in Alberta (full-time is a minimum 30 hours per week), signed by you and your employer that:
  • meets job offer and current employment contract requirements identified in the Assessment criteria, and:
    • is in an occupation on the list of eligible Accelerated Tech Pathway occupations(PDF, 135 KB)
    • is for an Alberta employer whose primary business activities belong to the Alberta tech industry, as defined by the AAIP list of eligible North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes (PDF, 190 KB)
    • has a base monetary wage or salary that:
      • meets provincial minimum wage, and
