Hello, I am a dual citizen of US and Canada. Born in the us and moved to Canada when I was 8 years old and became a landed immigrant. Moved back to the US to go to school when I was 21 and finally got my Canadian citizenship when I was 23.

I have not been back to Canada since I received my citizenship because I landed a good job out of school here and am 32 years old now

I want to move back to Canada but was searching and I lost my citizenship card, still have my SIN card though. My job is lined up already for start at the end of march so only leaves me about 5 weeks till I need to move. Was just going to get a uh-haul and drive up but will I have problems at the boarder without my citizenship card? Seems like applying for a new one takes a few months. I was just going to apply for a new one when I got home, going back to run the family business

Should I have any concerns? All I have is my US birth certificate, US drivers liscense and US passport. I have no problem going across the boarder regularly but with a uhaul with all my stuff could be a problem?

Thanks for the help

If you can't prove you are a Canadian citizen, then it is quite likely that you will be refused admission.

That might be out of the subject but my question is how come you lived in Canada from being 8 till being 21 and got your citizenship when you became 23 year old? I thought you get the citizenship as long as you stay in Canada for 3 years.

My Mom, american, re-married in Canada to my step dad, Canadian. Because my biological father, american, denied me to become a Canadian citizen, my step dad had to adopt me to make it happen. But, being under 18 he could not adopt me without my biological fathers concent which he would not give. Turned 18, took a year to have my step dad adopt me then applied for Canadian citizenship and 9/11 put everything on hold, was actually my 21st birthday that day. Two years later I was finally approved while I was actually living in the US. Flew up, met with the judge and I was approved, went to my ceremony and viola

I was actually 26 when I got my citizenship, not 23

MY biological father got lawyers involved, etc... so we decided to wait until I was 18 to get the process going. We could have won because of being there for so long but he was sueing us anyways so we decided to not spend the lawyer fees and wait a few years

My sister 6 years younger than me did the exact same thing, she waited until she was 18

So not 100% sure how he stopped it but I needed his consent to get my citizenship

Per my question above, i did find my Citizenship certificate I got when I was sworn in, should be enough to get me home now I think, just don't have my wallet card
